Or if Portland goes into another late season collapse

The problem is that the Lakers keep losing games.

Exactly!
They beat OKC 2 times in 1 week and lose to the Mavs :/
But even looking @ their next 5/6 games. They're all very winnable games.

So you expect the lakers never to lose again this season? They are winning at over .666 clip right now even if they were to lose their next game. Win 4 lose 2 is how theyve been and thats considered hot. They will have to pass Portland AND Denver in the standings to get the 8th. I posted Denver and Portlands upcoming schedules a couple of posts back and they are not easy so the lakers best chance to make up ground is during that stretch as long as they keep their winning percetage up.

too many things need to fall our way. if we only had to jump 1 team, i'd say sure. but we have to jump 3 teams with 27 games left and a 6 game gap.

those are tall odds even if you count in schedule differences.

I'll be pretty pleased if we get really close in the last 5 games and there is some buzz about the playoffs as a possibility.

the 9 game losing streak killed any hope of the playoffs. Even if they keep winning at a 60+% clip it will be hard, look at Utah, the Clippers, they both keep winning. They both need to collapse along with the Pelicans. Let's just enjoy them growing, but next year its playoffs or bust, with or without the max contracts.

Utah and the clippers will make the playoffs and the pelicans wont just based on their remaining schedule, its just Portland and Denver that stand in the way and the lakers play denver twice, i'm not saying its going to happen or even likely but per all those teams remaining schedule there is still a reasonable shot.

Yes. Win every game. Dominate every game, if you can. That’s what I expect, yes. Keep your opponent under 100 and score more than 100. That’s it. Every game by any means - defensive, offensive, savvy substitutions of reading the flow of the game... whatever it takes. And if we lose, get up and expect to win the next game... dominate that game, repeat.

20-10 in the last 30 games was feasible. That would put us right at 0.5.

Is it still possible after the trade?

Even if the Lakers miss the playoffs, if they can achieve what the '99-'00 Mavs did when they got a 40-42 record after countless years of pathetic basketball then that would be the momentum the team can take into the offseason. The next season the Mavericks finally reached the postseason and for many season after.

I think we would need to win 43 games to make the 8th seed. That means we go 20-7 the rest of the way. Pretty doubtful. Optimistically, we could win 38-40 games. More likely we win around 36, going something like 13-14 in our last 27 games.

Spurs blow it against the Nuggets and Jazz.

They are obviously sabotaging the Lakers chances at the playoffs.

At the beginning of the year, 90% of LG would have been happy with 36 wins...

I read that the Spurs are only 4 games back from being out of the playoffs, the same goes for most the teams at 8-5. even if it’s unlikely.. there is hope that one of these playoff teams go on a down slide and the Lakers go on a 9-10 game winning streak that puts in in the playoffs by the end of the year...

To be precise.. you can include the Wolves and Spurs on that list of teams who are at risk of missing the playoffs, can you imagine how sweet it would be if one of these mid tier teams fall apart and we get to sneak in?

But if we sneak in and OKC falls out. What will be ESPN's excuse.

Randle 9-13
Ingram 9-17
Kuzma 10-20

But you lose. LOL! 139 pts to Pelicans, 130 pts to Dallas. Can't blame IT's defense for this one.

Meanwhile the teams ahead of us are beating division leaders. Portland beat GS tonight, Clippers beat Boston, Utah on 11 game win streak. I say the playoff ship has officially sailed tonight.
