Says Philly almost traded him to the Lakers in the late 80s until they pulled out.
Explains his bitterness towards the Lakers organization. Wonder what the offer from the fo was at the time.

He has talked about it before. James Worthy was involved in that trade, I think.

^^

Well, it's the first time I've heard him say that... interesting.

So Worthy and maybe a pick and a bench player?

I love BigGame, but I would have loved to see Chuck on the late 80s early 90s squad.

Here's the article about the trade rumor from 1992. After that deal fell through he was traded to Phoenix.

In 1992? Worthy had season-ending knee surgery that year and would play for 2 more seasons before retirement. Who knows what could've happened if Sir Charles came to play for the Lakers another decade.

I find it hard to believe he was only drunk once while playing an NBA game.

Exactly. Barkley was/is lazy. He was never in shape his entire career, and the reason he never won a championship is because he didn't work hard enough.

Normally I wouldn't defend the fat ass but I don't think that's entirely accurate.

People seem to overlook good fortune when it comes to winning championships.

He unfortunately had to get through Michael Jordan to make it happen and he failed.

Like Malone, Reggie, Stockton, Ewing etc I find it hard to believe they didn't work hard enough.

That's what Mike would tell him to his face. Largely true. I wouldn't say he was always fat. He had his ups and downs. In 93, he was in MVP shape similar to how Shaq in 2000 was in his best shape. Early in Chuck's career he was a porker with a giant ass and thighs. He bordered on obese for a portion of his career.

His behavior at the end in Philly was effin shameful to boot. Fans/media forgot and forgave all that crap because he was a "charismatic" blowhard who gave media good quotes for copy. Spitting on a gurl, etc. He was the worst superstar Jayson Williams (a disturbed kid) could've wound up playing with because Chuck took him out drinking and fighting in bars.

Chuck was at his best in PHX and he got close, but those Suns couldn't hold serve on their home court many times and they blew series leads. Lakers at 8th seed would've beaten them in Gm5 in 93 if not for an MVP call that reduced the game to a 1 possession affair. That was against the 8th seed. PHX came an eyelash from losing all 3 home gms to them in their finest season. That crew wasn't gonna beat Chicago any sooner than SEA, LA91, UTAH or any other West team. They had Chuck and a bunch of offense minded softies like Dumas, Ced, Thunder Dan, KJ (whom Chuck called "The Desert Princess"). They had problems with Ho Grant and Pippen, much less Jordan. Not brain surgery to figure that one out. Same affliction the Lakers had.
