Thibs had this to say about Josh Hart last night:
Quote: | Wolves coach Tom Thibodeau was asked about Josh Hart: “Terrific. He’s just a good basketball player. He can do everything. Shoot, pass, defend.” Thibs called it “huge” that the Lakers found him late in the draft (No. 30 overall).

Thibs has the same title as Magic (President of Basketball Operations) in addition to being a coach. He should be fined!!! _________________ (bleep) David Stern. |

Its a little different when its the Lakers reporters going to the other teams players and coaches, not to ask about their own team, but to elicit compliments about the Lakers players. Besides, if Thibs was fined $50k for this, would it matter? |

So I actually did not know that the NBA had provided an explanation of the fine. So I went to go look for it and basically Thibs should be hit for tampering as well based on what I’m reading in this article.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/22456957/nba-commissioner-adam-silver-magic-johnson-50000-fine-message-was-clear
If you have another more in depth link or further insight then feel free to lay it on me. Otherwise I’m not really seeing what the difference is. |

Only if the FO had already been fined for tampering, called into the Commissioner’s office and told not to discuss players on other teams and then disregarded that warning and commented on a player on another team. Because that is what happened with the Lakers. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

If you're gonna go buy the book completely then rules are rules. Thibs should be fined. |

I think the Magic fine was BS. But I assume the difference is that coaches are required to answer questions from reporters after games, so they will inevitably have to comment on the players of other teams. For front office personnel, interviews are optional and it's easier for them to be circumspect.
That said, my guess is that Magic's fine was largely in response to his overall pattern of behavior than the specific quotes. It's similar to how Rasheed Wallace would be more likely to get a T for a certain behavior than another player because of his history of past conduct.

Yeah, he should be fined. Clear as day.
Burt as your polls states, fines are only for the Lakers. |

If Thibs had said that he was interested in Hart when he is a FA, wink wink, he would have been fined. He didn’t. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Coaches are allowed to say anything they want as that's normal.
But if he does have a management role then yes I agree he should be fined.
Just depends tho. The league can say since it was immediately after the game he was speaking as the coach. But if he were to go on Kimmel and say the exact thing it would be looked at as coming from his management role. |

Speaking of Thibs, not sure how this guy don’t have constant inflammed vocal cords, all I heard over the TV is his raspy voice barking order all game.
And yeah, the league is singling out the Lakers, BS |

There is no league against the Lakers conspiracy here.
There's a difference between:
Tom Thibodeau acting as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves at a league mandated post-game press interview commenting in response to a reporter's question that he thinks an opposing team's player is a good player.
and
Magic Johnson acting as President of Basketball Operations of the Los Angeles Lakers going on social media completely unprompted and making comments that he thinks an opposing team's player is a good player. Particularly when he was already previously warned about this within the last 6 months.
Tampering rules aren't cut and dry and they never have been. Let's not pretend like they suddenly are now or even should be. |

I have the solution. Magic likes to go to Laker practices. The league allows coaches to speak about players. Just give Magic an assistant coach title. He's been a head coach in this league. He can be Luke's Tex Winters _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

Wow. People are seriously incapable of operating under context.

So Thibodeau can say exactly what Magic said and not get a tampering charge even though he also has the title President of Basketball operations? _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |

We need a response from Silver regarding this. If he doesnt fine Thibs, then its favoritism. He needs to get fired. |

Raised an eyebrow at it, but let’s not sink to pettiness. Magic planting a seed for 50K, is well worth it in regards to the tampering charge. No one else is worth the risk. Mission accomplished. _________________ DEAR BASKETBALL |
