That's not really a Canadian thing. That's a nature thing that can be experienced all over the world.

There aren’t protected lake areas all over the world. There are in Canada.

I've spent weeks backpacking high-country lakes in several places and not seen anyone who wasn't in our group. And I have been to protected and isolated areas in the South Pacific with the same scarcity of people. Again, nit really a nation thing but a nature thing.

What's so bad about Bosnia and Herzegovina? I kind of want to go there or Albania just because they seem like the most random countries...

As someone that was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina (when it was part of Yugoslavia), I can't really recommend that place. The people are rude, everyone smokes cigarettes and they smoke them everywhere, there's only a few places worth visiting, and the country's potentially most exciting tourist attractions (mountains, ski resorts) are either run terribly by the locals or are infected by land mines from the war.

Croatia, just south of it, at least has some great beaches.

Haven't enjoyed Mexico the last few visits.
Switzerland was my favorite, barely edging out Germany.
Ireland, Scotland, Iceland, and New Zealand are on my list of places to go if I can ever afford it.

Has anyone here even been to Sweden (specifically Stockholm) or any of the other Nordic countries before?

Denmark. Didn’t have time to cross the bridge to Sweden.

Thanks. I've heard people saying that Scandinavia is boring. I've never visited any European country before.

Best: Spain, USA, France, Greece.

Worst: don't really have a bad experience, I've enjoyed all the countries I visited thus far. Yes, even Bosnia and Hercegovina.

Want to visit: the Azores (not a country), Zanzibar (not a country), Norway, Sweden, Finland, Australia, New Zeland, Canada, Argentina, South Africa, Oman, Jordan, Cuba, various island countries (Cape Verde, Mauritius etc.). Man, this is tough, it might be easier to list the countries I wouldn't want to visit: Syria, Somalia, Mali, the majority of Asia, some of the countries in Central America, the middle part (Sudan, Congo, Chad etc.) of Africa.

I lived in a small town in the south of Sweden (Gislaved) for 8 months. I absolutely loved the people and the culture but couldn't handle the weather. Stockholm in the East is beautiful, with a good nightlife scene. Swedes are easy to talk to, and party with, but it usually takes Americans a bit of time to warm up to them. Culturally, they don't smile nearly as much as Americans, and I've consistently witnessed Americans have a bit of difficulty in adjusting to lesser level of gregariousness - but once past that, most discover just how genuinely warm people most Swedes really are.

Gothenberg in the West is gorgeous with an awesome nightlife scene. Tons of things to do, both in town and on the countryside. Lots of kewl towns to visit like Uddevalla, Malmo (connected to Denmark), Vaxjo (College Town), and Kalmar (Another College Town on the water with kewl castles). For such a small country, Sweden is quite diverse. But the downside is DEFINITLELY the weather. The small window for a decent visit is between June - September. Too far into fall, winter, or early spring - and you'll freeze your cajones off.

A Prussian raised in the Midwest and the south. I think that makes Vlf make sense to me.

And now you live in Australia?

Do you think Scandinavia is more interesting to visit than France or Germany?
