I wonder if Zubac is in the Lakers plans for next year? Will he get actual minutes or more of what we saw before the all star break?

From the fact that he couldn’t earn significant minutes.

In the same way JR could not earn significant minutes earlier in the season? JR got to play after a team meeting and Luke changing his mind about his PT. Zu is getting to play after Larry being traded, so Maginka changing Luke's mind for him. How much of this is earning PT and how much Luke reversing himself?

Correct.

Since getting minutes in the rotation for the last 4 games: ZU is at (16.5MPG)/11.8PPG/5RPG/ on 20 for 25 FG's (80%)...

This pace seems too much for him. Seems winded.

This. Zubac's potential role with this team will be whether he can be a player for them on the defensive end. He's got some decent offensive tools to work with, but defense and rebounding need to greatly improve. He's so young though that it may take quite a while for him to grow into his role.

How could he earn minutes, if he didn't get any minutes?

The same way college grads get experience by getting rejected from jobs for lack of experience

I really liked his passing and rim protection tonight. Even with the lower scoring output, I think this was his second best game (behind the Minnesota game) since he's been re-inserted into the lineup.

Like lots of players earn minutes, in practice.

Zubac has looked like dog crap this month. He doesn't look like an NBA player at all - more like the big. tall kid the coaches found on the farm and they decided to try and make him into a basketball player.

That’s exactly what I would think if I had never seen him play last year. For a young player, especially a big, his feel for the game was impressive last year. But this year he looks like he just discovered the sport of basketball last week. He’s virtually a big’s version of Ennis. There’s nothing you can say he does well. Nothing. He has no presence on the floor aside from producing frustration.

It was pretty fun when he first got here. Seemed like he had a lot of promise and was a great interviewer. It was so cool that he grew up a die hard Laker fan and that his dream of playing for them had come true. But this is his second year and he’s shown no improvement in anything. Worse than that, he completely regressed compared to last year. I think he wants it. He just doesn’t have it. He’s not an NBA player. When the Lakers don’t bring him back he’ll likely be out of the league, along with Ennis. Oh well. Time to move on

He used to have so many offensive moves for a young big but he hasn't shown any of it this year except for the Minnesota game. I think the Lakers have given up on him.

I don't know what happened to Zubac. Somewhere between the end of last season and Summer League he forgot how to play basketball in the NBA. He had a very promising rookie year. He used to kill it with that floater on the pick and roll and was a presence inside with his shot blocking.

While he was always a project, he seemed ahead of the curve ala Bynum in his 2nd year.

Not really like we're feeding the ball into him either. Would like to see him get the kind of touches Lopez gets when he's in tbh. But I don't think they see him as an offensive option despite his moves. He and IT have a good pick and roll game going, would like to see the Lakers go back to that.

This doesn’t even come down to how often he’s getting the ball. He’s awful at the most basic things that are asked of bigs in today’s game. He lacks the necessary skills for him to survive in the league. He can’t defend screen roll, protect the rim consistently, rebound, nothing. He can barely run the floor. Even his reflexes are slow. If the best thing he has the potential of doing well is something that the league has gone away from anyways, that also says a lot. You’re seeing what you want to see if you deny all of this.

He doesn't deserve any minutes tbh. He's just too slow for the game. Bryant needs to be getting these minutes.
