Finally a chance to move up in the standings. A win tonight would be the first win in over a month against a healthy playoff team that is playing well. |

Start Wear, Kuzma plays better off the bench with this starting group, starters opened both halves badly last game. |

I want the Lakers to beat Portland so bad, but no Ingram, no Hart, Brewer gone and Deng still Magically chained to the bench, that's a pretty big hole to fill at the 3 position. Wear had a great game last time out, but SA was depleted as well. Stotts will be prepared, he's a top notch film room guy. Don't expect him to show any mercy unless Wear can show he's an all-star defender and Kuzma shows he's grown a ton on defense.
From what I've seen of the Blazers, they will go at Kuzma, Wear and IT hard with their back court and wings, they're going to want to pull Lopez to the perimeter, and we're likely going to need to score a lot of points to beat them. Maybe Lonzo can get 10 blocks. Maybe Luke's got a surprise up his sleeve. Maybe we get triple doubles out of Lonzo and Randle flattens Nurkic on a hard screen for even looking at Lonzo's shoulder again. I sure hope so.
If both teams were at full health I'd say Lakers beat this Blazer team in Staples. As is, it's going to be a tough one.

Its only hard to believe because they dug themselves such a huge hole for the first half of the season. When you're winning 7 out of 10, you only make up 2 games against the lowest playoff teams who are winning 5 out of 10 at worst.
The hardest part is that this streak has been almost entirely against the lottery teams so their wins aren't helping to knock other teams down.
If they can continue shooting these ridiculous percentages, they'll make up a ton of ground this month. |

1. They’re not gonna start a guy they just signed to a 10 day contract.
2. Wear is a PF. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

yes and Kuzma and Wear were both out there in crunch time together so I don't think it matters what you call them, if Wear can finish a game while on a ten day, he can start a game while on a ten day. |

I think tonight's going to be a real good test for Wear. I know Kuzma makes mistakes on defense but his offense can make up for it, when he's hot. I think he's a weak link as far as either starters or finishers are concerned until he cleans up his mistakes a little. Likely we'll rely on IT to close as well.
Wear - we've had one glimpse of him, and he did well. We don't have a full game of Stotts throwing Lillard, McCollum, Aminu, Napier and whoever else at him nor a full game to see how he responds to help IT when they try to exploit the size advantage that direction. I think we're going to see how good Wear is tonight. I don't really care if he starts or not, but I won't be surprised if he finishes and I really hope he's up for the challenge. |

You can have a 10 game win streak, it doesn't matter if the teams ahead of you have 10 game win streaks also. They haven't gain much ground with this win streak, since the teams ahead of them are winning at about the same pace. |

Maybe you've been looking at the wrong teams in front of the lakers.
In fact they have made up ground on 2 teams, while the lakers went 7-3, San Antonio went 2-8 and Minnesota 4-6. Thats making up 5 games and 3 games respectively in just ten games. There is 20 games left and if this trend continues, lakers will tie one and pass the other. With these teams injuries and hardest part of their schedules yet to come plus with every other playoff team playing like gangbusters, its actually a possibility. Plus the clippers will end up behind the lakers with their ultra hard schedule. |

They're chasing 10 teams. While Minny and the Spurs have been losing, the Jazz and Clippers haven't. So they still haven't gained on those spots.
They need to maintain the current pace and at least 3 teams need to nose dive. |

It's nice SA and the Wolves are dropping, and hopefully they drop some more. But you need to look at the #8, #9, #10 seeds. Nuggest have been 7-3, Clippers 7-3, Jazz 8-2, Lakers 7-3. You can't worry about the Spurs and Wolves because the teams ahead of us will get first dibs at them if we all continue at this same pace. Unlike those teams ahead of us, our margin for error is basically NOTHING. They have 6+ lead on us. You know how bad it would be to lose to Portland tonight, even with all this winning?
We're depending on those teams CRUMBLING, while we play PERFECT basketball. |

I am not saying they need to be perfect, they can make it with 4-6 losses. The thing is that the lakers only need to pass 2 current playoff teams, since seeds 3-8 have close to equal losses, it doesnt matter which of them they pass. Take a look at minnesotas next 5 games, realistically they can lose them all. The spurs are old, banged up and playing at their worst and have the hardest schedule in thr league coming up. The clippers final 16 games are all against playoff teams except for lakers, utah and suns.
In a way more teams to chase down just makes it more likely for teams to collapse. If you're chasing only 3 teams its unlikely all will; chasing 10 teams , its a lot more likely 3 will collapse.
Its really just weather the lakers can sustain their winning ways despite the injuries. I guess we will see. |
