His best bet would have been staying 4 years at UCLA playing against better competition while molding himself into a D and 3 guard.

How does his competition compare to the competition in college? In Lithuania he plays against older, more experienced players. I would assume they have higher basketball IQs from all the extra years of playing. Big difference between playing against guys that aren’t even 21 (in many cases) yet and playing against players that are much older. Older players have more time to get stronger also.

He definitely could have changed opinions more though if he exceeded expectations at UCLA.

yes more collective experience but I think NCAA clearly has better talent to play against to prepare him for the speed and athleticism of the NBA. And then the coaching and training would be light years better.

On top of that, he signed with a rinky-dink team that is letting his family treat them like their personal Harlem Globetrotters. I imagine NBA teams are wary of the self-indulgent environment.

Well they certainly won't be impressed by him scoring on a bunch of kids....

That was my Harlem Globetrotter reference -- his team dropped out of a crappy league to do some games against the Washington Generals.

The top competition he plays is inferior to college and he often plays teams full of guys college age or younger.

The Big Baller Brand Challenge games were just exhibition games really. Those were not the same as the real games against much older, tougher competition. (which they didn’t do nearly as well performing in, especially Melo).

They also played against Žalgiris who plays in Euroleague regularly and has some former NBA players on the team. But that was just one game.

9 games in the league is a joke. I wonder if one reason they are doing this is the team might be relegated to the second division.

He has the highest true stealing % in the draft class.
But his effective steal rate is below average.

Yep. And it seems like his awareness dips when he's on the road.
But he makes up for it by getting his teammates involved in crime.

Out of those 9 games how many did Gelo win? 1 or 2 games?

He won some of the exhibition games but who cares.

In any case I can’t wait to see what happens with the two younger brothers. Melo not getting drafted when he is older would be embarrassing to LaVar.

Even if he were a borderline second round pick, would you really want to deal with his dad for a guy with little apparent upside?

nope hahaha

LiAngelo Ball can declare for NBA Draft, but not even Lakers will consider picking him

Quote:
ESPN's Jeff Goodman, who has covered the Ball Family Circus as closely as anyone, put it in very clear terms during an appearance on "SportsCenter."

"Ultimately NBA people feel that, again, he shoots the ball well. He has good size. But he cannot put the ball on the floor, and he doesn't defend," Goodman said. "Not a great athlete, and then you also have the LaVar factor that comes into play. Most NBA people that I've spoken to feel that he will have a pretty good career over in Europe, but he is not an NBA player, will not be drafted this year."

That is so drastic, he almost looks like he's been doing speed. He looks gaunt. Wow.

Now here is somebody who listened to a person who gave him bad advice when he could've gone to UCLA on a full scholarship, gotten a degree (will probably have utilized it more than his brothers), and played college basketball until his skills improved that he had a possibility of being drafted. Now he'll probably bounce between niche basketball leagues in Europe, Asia, South America etc.

Right? Easily dropped 20 to 30lbs. There are dudes that are 6'3" that can do nothing else on the floor except shoot 3s. LiAngelo could easily be that guy. I'm not saying he's a starter or primary rotation guy. Sometimes you just need a guy that can make a team and knock down shots. I don't see why he can't be that guy. 45% against borderline NCAA comp is fine. If he can retain any kind of percentage like that next level, he can make it.

Gelo should go to China and become a star in the CBA. Grow the BBB in the most populous country in the world.

i think someone brought up Korver and JJ Redick... JJ Redick avg like 27ppg at Duke and Korver was shooting 48% 3s with 17ppg his senior year.
Can Gelo do this in 4 years against Div 1 talent? I doubt it

I tend to agree. Very few people get the privilege of putting on a Bruin jersey and playing on national television in Pauley Pavilion while getting an education at a premier institution......but it feels like society places a much lower value on that that I do.
