overheard a debate at work the other day that got me thinking...
I have a pretty stringent definition of a mansion and would lump many homes that some may consider mansions as just a very nice/large estate home. In my book a mansion has:
-atleast 12K sqft living space
-atleast 2 acres lot
-a long winding driveway with gated entry
-atleast 6 car garage
-atleast 2 kitchens where 1 is a commercial/catering kitchen
-huge dramatic foyer entry
-a ball room or other type of inside entertaining area that can host dozens of guests
-atleast a couple more specialty rooms such as a theater, gym, library, spa, indoor pool, etc
-large pool outside
-lots of bedrooms and bathrooms _________________ (bleep) Kawhi

heard a similar discussion recently on what constitutes a Yacht...I know some different organizations mostly define by size...but we all know it is more than only size when we are talking about a luxury yacht, and not just thing that floats.

just read an article about U of Florida's previous football coach (fired last season) selling his house at a $400K loss so a special needs family could buy it (it was originally built for special needs person)......article referred to it as a "mansion" and its main living quarters was only 5,700+ square feet.

I think a mansion has to have qualities that make it readily apparent that it houses very very wealthy people. It has to be big, it has to be in an expensive neighborhood (at the time of construction), it should have security features and quarters for servants and ostentatious entertainment features (used to be ballrooms and conservatories, now its home theaters and massive wine cellars and such). And it should have some large, pretentious architectural features as well. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
