Depends on what you define as important criteria. To me, I like the PNW cities of Portland and Seattle, with SF and LA being really great in different ways but not places I'd choose to live (that's not a knock, more my style than anything), and SD being good weather and not much else. _________________ “We must always take sides. Seattle and Portland were my #2-#3 choices. Absolutely gorgeous cities.

I really like San Diego as a place to relax for a long weekend.
I'm actually moving to the Bay area soon. San Francisco is an amazing city but the rent is just ridiculous. I'm looking at $3,000 for a studio-- not even in SF.
Seattle seems really great too.
I hate Los Angeles and don't understand the appeal. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

I'm guessing there will be a lot of LA bias, but what do people think?
its not even about bias its the truth. L.A.
due to its size, it encompasses different mini cities/neighborhoods within it that can resemble other places on the list. this is why it has an unfair advantage to other cities on the list.

what do you hate about l.a.?
More of a sprawling suburb than a real city. Ridiculous traffic and need to drive to get around easily. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

SF's strengths are its dense urban layout, public transportation infrastructure, exciting topography, architecture, civic unity, and on these bases, it beats the crap out of the city of Los Angeles.
Greater Los Angeles is a giant resort with seemingly unlimited diversion and I don't think I will live anywhere else for extended periods of time.
Portland is a great (bleep) city but it's too wet and I need the sunshine.

Hard for me to believe you'd say that, but at least you have the experience to say it. If you haven't lived in both San Diego and LA, you don't have the credibility to choose LA over SD. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

For me, from about the midpoint of Orange County south, the political sensibilities make living there unsuitable. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

ditto re: Seattle
As essentially a native SoCal guy, the weather is one of the seasons I'm looking forward to moving to Seattle in a few years _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Not even the mid-point. And it's not just the politics. It's just such a sterile (mostly) uninteresting place. La Jolla is great, but outside of that, it's really pretty uninteresting down the San Diego way. There's some great golf, and it's a great place to go out to sea on a fishing boat, but other than that . . . _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I lived in north county SD and while I loved the weather and the beaches there isn't much to do there...and LA is so much bigger and more things to do. I do like eating out often and there isn't a better place than LA in my opinion.
