It's important to resign Randle and not match an offer sheet.
We don't need him with a no trade clause if one of our 2019 targets become available at the deadline... |

He should - and will - settle for nothing less than getting a long term contract at whatever maximum the market is willing to pay. He would be crazy not to. |
Yep. That pretty well sums it up. |

I don’t think we would trade him in his first year in either case. We aren’t some classless organization like the Clippers . |

I am dubious of any scenario that depends on NBA players taking less money.
Fans always dream about that, but it rarely happens |
LeBron took less money to go to the Heat!
Any discount he gives the Lakers in signing here, he will make double that with increased endorsements!
Also, I seem to recall something from many years back that LeBron's shoe contract had a "kicker" that paid him more money if he played in one of the biggest markets...Anyone know if that is still in play?
Otherwise, I say sign Randle and ONE max player and see what they can clear off the books for the 2019 FA's... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

My hunch is if Lebron comes it'll be more about family ( his wife wants to be in LA) and post-basketbal opportunities (movie/tv roles).
I don't think it will be about championships (although that will be a nice bonus for him) or - this probably works in our favour - money (he probably gets the most staying in Cle, also with California's state taxes). As long as the offer is not one where we are seen as disrespecting him, I think there's some room to negotiate. |

Yes, Lebron did leave some money on the table to go to Miami. However, he is already so well known, and so highly paid for endorsements, that I question whether his endorsement income would change simply from moving to Los Angeles.
I've heard various rumors about athletes who have shoe kickers (Lebron and Durant), but they always seem to be some vague reporting of something someone heard from someone else rather than anything well sourced. |

No one can offer Randle a no-trade clause. That's only available to players who have been in the league for 8 years, with 4 of those years needing to be with the team offering the no-trade clause. |

If someone gives him an offer sheet and we match he has to approve any trade for a year. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

If players are only looking for the maximum $$$$ in the longest contract possible (even if it means being on a team that will not be a major player in the playoffs), Lakers will not get them
If players are willing to take the KD route (1+1 contract - only “losing 3-5 millions” for one year and having the opportunity/freedom to leave or make more in Year 2) to play with a TEAM that can realistically challenge the Warriors, Rockets and Cavs of the world in LaLa Land - these players will carefully consider what the Magic Man offers!
Randle, LBJ, PG13 and others have the right to either be filthy rich on a bad team or believe in Magic’s magical vision for at least one season while being free to go where they want to go and/or make in Year 2 |

Around 42M to spend.
Assuming no PG nor LBJ, I hope the FO preserve one-max for 2019 and offer multi year to players who fit the development of young core.
Fast forward to 2019.
$31,000,000......One max
$6,270,000........Luol Deng (stretched)
$8,719,320........Lonzo Ball

Assuming a cap of 104M, you could offer around 20M in 2018 for a contract(s) longer than one year.
In other words, the FO could split the aforementioned 42M space in 2018, spend half of it on multi-year contract(s) and the other half on one-year contract(s).
This is the scenario I foresee.
Even if Deng is totally removed, it is unpractical to resign Randle and have two-max in 2019. So it does not make sense to offer one-year contract only in 2018.
