It's like this.

Say you get married to a wonderful spouse.

And a way to measure your happiness as a couple is to constantly point out how your previous fiancée was terrible and dwell on that. That's obsession.

Why can't we start, as a Lakers fanbase, to enjoy Kuz and Hart without constantly and instinctually having to go back to our ex-GF DLO? Let him go.

I didn't put a thread asking for a poll on DLO; I just respond to those who seem to be obsessed with him more than I am (and I'm a fan of DLO still).

We have moved on, and I think both teams benefitted from the trade, and DLO probably had no chance here in LA. So best of luck to you, and good bye.

it's definitely time for you to move on ...

Seriously you're not getting it.

Who put a DLO thread in the Lounge? Not me.

Who is constantly talking about DLO when talking about our players? Not me.

Why am I singled out here? It's really hypocritical.

At least I'm a fan of his. Why are there so many posters talking about him in the Lounge? I'm responding, they're initiating. You don't see the hypocritical stand?

I'm truly over DLO. I'm very happy with Lonzo/BI/Kuz/Jules/Hart.

It's just sad to see that we measure our happiness and success on DLO.

Don't we have bigger and better comparisons to use than that?

No I don’t think it’s hypocritical. I’ve seen you initiate and respond. And you respond almost every time to any that criticizes him. I’m not trying to be an (bleep) but you don’t have great self awareness in regards to DLO. If you were really over it, you wouldn’t feel the need to constantly defend DLO.

Honestly, I don’t care. The DLO talk entertains me at times but you create as many discussions about him as anybody.

I haven't initiated in a LONG time. I respond. So what. If the sentiment is we should stop talking about DLO, then follow it both ways. Responding in kind is not as egregious as initiating, which I have not done in a while.

Agree to disagree. Responding constantly is worse than initiating once in a while and creates the exact discussion you say you want to be rid of. That’s the last I’ll say on it.

If we factor in the following, I think the Lakers are probably the #2 destination for FAs this summer.

1. cap space.
2. group to place around FA(s).
3. cap structure going forward.

I think the 76ers have an edge over us for now b/c they can get 1 max, are in the East.

Not that it's gospel, but Zach Lowe put out his all-NBA choices and Embiid (2nd team) and Simmons (3rd team) really trump our really nice young core that is not as proven.

I think it's a good position and reflective of how good of a year we had.

For me, it was most important to feel a sense that the FO knew what it was doing. They started off the offseason trading DLO, so I was displeased. But they made some shrewd signings (non panic moves) and got KCP, who for a 1 year punt, is as good as you can get. Brook helped Jules out, and Kuz/Hart were steals at the end of the draft.

It was tough to see Nance/JC go, but they cleared cap space and got a 1st (25th pick) in return. IT was worth the gamble to see if he could contribute and in a few games he did.

My gripes with the FO are:

1. inability to find a suitable backup PG (prior to IT coming and thereafter);
2. wing depth; could have used Brewer but he probably asked for the waiver.
3. how we treat injuries. Are Lonzo/BI really that hurt that they can't play? Are we just being cautious? Who knows. But now Lonzo may get the rep that he's injury prone or has low pain thresholds.

Good topic Yin.

I believe that with Zo and BI we are seeing a brilliant move by the FO fo limit the initial wear and tear over the 1st 2 seasons.

Developmentally they are under 20 years of age which means they are still growing and prone to injury when pitted against stronger players. 50 games in season 1 is a good start for their development. 70 games in season 2 is the next step. Then by the time they are 22 not only do they have over 120ish games of experience but their body is now intelligently conditioned and they've learned better how to care for it.

I dont think we appreciate enough the athletic and mental emotional demands of going from HS to College to Pro in 3 years. Expecting a 19 year old to play against men while traveling 30,000 miles in 5 months and playing the equivalent of 2+ collegiate seasons at higher intensity seems mechanistic in approach rather than holistic.

I believe the excessive holdouts were part of the plan all along to reduce minutes. And something tells me this is from Rob with his extensive background of player development.

The NBA season is too long...60 games would be ideal...but that ain't changing so I think we will see teams gradually step up young assets and rest older assets and folks will give up the dream of playing 82 year after year after year.

PS

Why is Kuz different? He's 23.

That's an interesting concept that I haven't thought about before.

76ers sat out Embiid for years.
Simmons sat out a year.
Fultz basically this year.

Interesting.

Extremely Pleased

1. Changed the culture of the entire team from being a bottom dweller Phoenix-looking like team into one that isn't only competitive when healthy, but attractive to FAs.

2. Kuzma, Hart, Ingram all WAYYYYYY above expectation. Ball met expectations, but basically it was a trade off for shooting and defense.

3. Walton's play calling late in games vastly improved. Substitutions way improved.

4. The Lakers absolutely maximize the most out of the South Bay Lakers. I can't think of any other team that not only has guys going back and forth, but have shown hints of real skill development and effectiveness.

5. They even opened up more caproom with the IT trade.

It's scary to think that with the Laker draft, realistically for upside:
Lonzo could be at 15ppg
Ingram could be at 18ppg
Kuzma could be at 20ppg
Hart could be at 14ppg

Those are all attainable goals all at the same time, very soon. Ridiculous.
