How about the Lakers don't undersell him, and pay him what he deserves and then they don't have to worry about all that.

Julius's cap hold that first year is going to count against the cap only 12.4M which means no matter what the Lakers pay him, THIS off-season it only counts 12.4M against the cap. The only way it wouldn't is if they paid him less than 12.4M and if they even tried to lowball him that badly, they don't deserve him.

After all the hard work you put this year into making us believers, I think the bolded is appropriate.

We must absolutely pay him what he deserves. The question to be answered is "how much does he deserve?" We won't know that summer.

There you go. Speaks for itself. I think we'll give him a multi year deal starting at the $15 million range.

Assuming 8% raises per year...

(1) $13.50M
$14.58M
$15.75M
$17.01M
4 yrs => $60.84M

(2) $14.25M
$15.39M
$16.62M
$17.95M
4 yrs => $64.2M

(3) $15.00M
$16.20M
$17.496M
$18.895M
4 yrs = $67.691M

(4) $16.00M
$17.28M
$18.66M
$20.16M
4 yrs = $72.1M

4 Years/68M - 72M sounds about right actually.

20/10/4 can defend all 5 positions and 61% from the field while doing it at the age of 23.

If you ain't doing it then, you aren't doing it ever.

If we get two maxs + Randle this offseason then I'd rather front load as much as possible.

If we get one + Randle, one user pointed out the Lakers could offer him a deal where his second year is the lowest pay, that way we have money for another max in 2019.

That's not true. His caphold will be whatever his first year starting salary will be. If he gets a contract paying him 15 million in his first season, then that's his caphold.

Lakers should pay him as little as possible.....what he deserves is extremely subjective.

The question will be what is his market value. Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago will help to determine that. He can tell he Lakers that he is getting a max offer and use that as a negotiating tactic. The lakers can then tell him that we will pay or or not pay him the max. If they don’t he will sign an offer sheet with another team.

Now he may not be getting max offers from other teams and if his market value is below the max that will be determined and he will sign for his market value either here are somewhere else.

Randle and Gordon are 2 restricted free agents that have come into their own and if you are a rebuilding team they both make a lot of sense if you have the cap space. Since they are restricted the team that his hopeful of acquiring them will probably go for the max.

If Randle wants to stay with the Lakers he will use that to get a commitment from the Lakers to pay him the max. If he doesn’t get that commitment he will sign the sheet and call them on their decision.

Either way the market will determine his value and the it will be up to the Lakers as to whether they want to pay him at the market rate.

What is key is that they work out what they are going to do and if it is to resign him they do it after they have resolved their free agent contracts with PG 13 or Lebron.

I hope he stays but you need to realize it I will probably be for the max.

I may be way off with my opinion but i think many of you are being unrealistic with your estimates of Randle's market value.

Not seeing him signing a contract for less then $20M per year. Last year both Otto Porter and J. Holiday signed contracts over $25M per year.

How is Randle not getting a contract north of $20M per year?

Lakers need to choose whether they will be the one's paying it. IMO they should. He is an emerging 20/10 PF/C that defends and can rebound and push the pace. Tremendous fit for what the Lakers are doing.

As long as they continue to play that way, of course.

That's basically what we gave a deadbeat like Luol Deng, it would be a steal to get Randle for that

Agreed. But a lot of posters think he'll be cheaper than what he's worth because of the lack of teams in a position to give him that kind of money. Nevertheless I expect him to get ~20m at the least

What he deserves is actually largely objective and numbers based, no?
