1. Kobe
Seems like the Lakers want to wait until the Laker legend is retired a certain amount of time or inducted into the hall, but Kobe is Kobe...

2. Wilt?

3: Worthy?

Who else?

Not sure the fan base resonates with Mikan or Goodrich. Wilkes was not good enough.

Another thought:

Dr. Jerry Buss

Worthy-No
Wilkes-No
Jack Kent Cooke-perhaps
Wilt- No- Career w/Lakers too short
Kobe-Absolutely
Buss-Absolutely
Mikan-Can't comment, never saw play
Goodrich, aka Stumpy-No

I raised this question in another thread. With Kobe, I think we're done. It would be a little weird to have the current owners put up a statue of their dad. Just in general, there is something unseemly about owners erecting monuments to themselves. If some future ownership group wanted to do it, after the Buss family is out of the picture, that would be a different matter.

I'm good with Kobe. I'm not sure the rest would garner enough support. Possibly Wilt, but it would have been better if he was alive.

I get where you’re coming from, but I think it’s kind of a different situation. Dr. Buss is pretty much universally accepted as one of the best owners in sports history, and was synonymous with the Lakers brand for 3 decades of unprecedented success.

If this were any other team/ownership family, then I’d absolutely agree. I just don’t think anyone would have a problem with it, and it’s undoubtedly deserved.

I think Mikan is criminally forgotten. First great big man and star of the league.

Dr. Buss changed the culture of basketball. His influence went beyond the Lakers.

He started local television contracts, cheerleaders, halftime shows, etc. He brought entertainment to the game of basketball. The fact his teams won 10 titles in the span of 3 decades was also no small feat.

Dr. Buss definitely deserves one.

Kobe is a lock. I think Wilt will get one to build on the thought the Wilt was a really a Laker....and Miken will get one when one in needed but nobody else really is deserving....maybe during the next "down" period for the Lakers.

I agree with previous post that maybe Dr. Buss gets one, but it will need to come from an ownership group that is not controlled by the Buss family.

Surprised at the lack of support for James Worthy.

He’s been voted one of the Top 50 NBA players of all-time, many championships, number retired, and continued involvement with the team.

Mikan (Kobe obviously). We count those championships, right?

As much as I grew up idolizing Big Game, that would be really watering down the honor.

All the players that have statues are all-nba MVP caliber players that played the majority of their career in LA.

We may have to eventually develop a larger "Walk of Fame" to accommodate all the statues.

Kobe for sure, and you'd have to strongly consider (and I'd be fine with) any of Wilt, Mikan, Goodrich, Pao, Worthy. They were all key parts to championships.
