Kobe for sure, and you'd have to strongly consider (and I'd be fine with) any of Wilt, Mikan, Goodrich, Pao, Worthy. They were all key parts to championships.

It’s a question if he gets his jersey retired, def not a statue outside Staples.

There’s no question Pau gets his jersey retired. Once he makes the hall of fame, his jersey goes up.

And he most certainly will make HoF. Will be first ballot too, probably.

I don't think worthy should have a statue....

In order to get your jersey retired you need to be a hall of famer. I think in order to get a stature a player should be a hall of famer and have been a top 5 player in the league for a period of time.

Only Kobe and Buss. Pretty soon it’s going to be nearly impossible to walk into the arena for all the statues LOL

I think a podcast was talking about having Wilt be a statue, and Pau, which is when they lost all credibility. You just gonna give statues to anyone with a retired jersey or won a title with the team?

On the flipside, the role players need a mural or something. make it a wall-of-fame of sorts. Fisher, Horry, Odom, the 80s guys, all that. Just recognize that they helped win titles, can't give ALL the glory to the hall-of-famers.

Robert Horry.

Mold the statue with Vlade tapping the ball out to him for the game winning 3 against the Queens in the 2002 WCF.

No. Kobe and MAYBE Worthy are my first 2 choices. Gasol would go somewhere after that. Not sure where.

Mikan should have one imo. Lakers include all the 16 championships won in both LA and Minneapolis so Mikan deserves his due credit.

Jack Kent Cooke - Without him there would be no LA based Lakers and most likely not much as far as titles. Not to mention the fact that he left his whole fortune to help others, he's the example of the very best of what it means to be a Laker.

Dr. Buss

Kobe

My top list of statues that should be outside Staples:

1. Kobe Bryant
2. Lisa Leslie
3. Dr. Jerry Buss
4. Jack Kent Cooke
5. Rob Blake
6. James Worthy
7. Wilt Chamberlain

Candice Parker, Anze Kopitar, and Jonathan Quick will all also likely warrant statues by the time they retire.

I don't feel Pau Gasol spent enough time with the franchise to warrant a statue. Wilt Chamberlain only makes the cut for post humorous reasons.

George Mikan never actually played in Los Angeles. He already has a statue at Target Center in Minneapolis. I don't feel he warrants another statue here.

After Kobe gets his, I think we're done for now.

I'm not a fan of putting up a statue of Wilt. The Lakers with statues reached their elite levels of greatness while they were Lakers. Wilt's legacy was already established as a Warrior and Sixer before arriving in L.A.

Like Toasted Muffins said, Mikan already has a statue at the Target Center. He's still probably one of the most beloved athletes to represent that state. When he passed, there were hundreds of admirers who gathered for a candlelight vigil at the Target Center. That definitely would not have happened here in L.A. Not enough people here know of Mikan and his importance to the game.

But I wouldn't be opposed to retiring his number because of his pioneering legacy in the game. Nobody has worn #99 for the Lakers since Mikan, probably no one ever will. Imagine some young rookie selecting #99 and on his first media day, he'll be repeatedly asked if he knows who George Mikan is. Naturally his answer will be "Huh? Who?". The Lakers might as well give the number the respect it deserves.

I'm not a fan of putting up statues of owners and executives. All the statues in front of Staples should be honoring the game and it should be limited to players only. Obviously Chick is on a different level because he connected the fans to the game.

What they should do instead is build a Laker museum inside LA Live. There's enough legend and lore contained in the Laker history to build a decent sized museum and fill it with Laker magic. If they could build something as interesting as the Reagan museum, I'd probably visit the place a couple of times per year. Just a thought...
