SUPER sad to see this crawl During the OKC/Utah game. I’m going to be real that I’ve thought Pop was acting differently during the Spurs/Warriors games. I didn’t know if it had to do with the Kawhi situation. But as it turns out he was dealing with something much more profound. My condolences to the family.

Aw (bleep)! That's horrible news. I've come to have a great deal of respect for Pop over the recent years, and I'm betting his wife was a great lady.

Kinda crappy for TNT to put LeBron on the spot by breaking the news to him on live TV during his post-game interview. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

TNT needs to really evaluate what they're doing if they think its Ok to break news like that to someone just for their stupid sound bite. |

Right? I just watched a replay of it that was crazy. LeBron was clearly blown away and stammering and just...that was ridiculous |

Attention whore media companies obsessed with their clips. Disgusting to treat this as an attempt to get the viral clip.
If a player wants to address it, then he will. But it should be on his discretion, not yours. |

Another example of under-reported stress that coaches face every season. It takes a coach of Popovich's talent and character to keep the Spurs competitive despite hardships on, off and outside the court. _________________ -Avenue of the Champions- -RIP Dr Buss- #824 |

I still think he was blindsided and is trying to cover for a reporter hes friends with because when you go back and watch the video his reaction is of suprise and the way she asks the question seems like she is informing him for the first time.
Either that or I don't know it would be a little wierd how that whole post game interview goes down with the ways she asks and the way he reacts if it was preplanned. |

Quote: | Ettore Messina to coach Spurs in Game 3 following death of Gregg Popovich’s wife
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich’s wife, Erin, died yesterday.
That sad news was felt throughout the NBA, and it obviously affects San Antonio most closely. That includes for tonight’s Game 3 against the Warriors.

Ettore Messina was a longtime head coach in Europe. The Spurs lead assistant also took over for a few regular-season games Popovich missed. So, making – rather than advising – coaching decisions won’t be a brand new challenge to Messina.
But down 2-0 to defending-champion Golden State is a tough place to make an NBA playoff debut.
On the bright side, there will be no pressure. Not only has San Antonio been outclassed the first two games of the series, focus is rightly on the Popovich family. A win would be a pleasant surprise and help Messina – who’s up for the Hornets job – in his pursuit of a head-coaching position. A loss would be quickly forgotten with more important matters at hand.
To that end, hopefully the time away allows Popovich the space he needs to grieve. That matters far more than a basketball game. |

It is but, at the same time, if there's probably no better player in the NBA to give an appropriate response on camera. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

This writer really has psychological issues. They quote RC mentioning Pop wants all the focus on the game, then comment that the focus should "rightly" be on his wife's passing, then later mention Pop should be given his space.
The writing is a roller coaster of inconsistency. |

Quote: | Ettore Messina to coach Spurs in Game 4
The Spurs' top assistant will run the team once again for Game 4.
Assistant coach Ettore Messina will reprise his role from Wednesday and serve as the head coach for the Spurs for Game 4 of San Antonio’s first-round series against the Warriors tomorrow, tweets Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News.
Messina is filling in for Gregg Popovich, who is away from the team mourning the death of his wife Erin. With San Antonio down 3-0 to Golden State, it’s possible that tomorrow is the Spurs’ final game of the season. If the series resumes, it’s unclear if Popovich will take his regular seat for the remainder of the series.
Messina is reportedly a top candidate for a head coaching job this offseason and has received interest from the Hornets, who are on the lookout for Steve Clifford‘s replacement. San Antonio granted Charlotte permission to interview Messina, which will likely take place after the Spurs’ season is complete. For now, Messina’s focus will be to stave off elimination. |
