I could see both the Cavs and OKC telling PG and LeBron respectfully to opt in so they can get assets similar to the Clippers getting multiple assets... when CP3 went to Houston.. |

How much did CP3 get when he agreed to opt in? |

I don’t believe that how their teams fare in the playoffs wears on their decision, short of winning a title. And I don’t think either will. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

If you apply CP3's logic to PG13, you're presuming a lot _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Paul opted-in because that's the only way he could go to Houston.
There's no reason for Lebron or George opt in, take less money and reduce the talent on the team they were going to when they could just sign with that team outright for more money.
Makes no sense, unless either of them wants to go to a team with no cap space. |

Actually LeBron makes about $200k more if he opts in vs. opt out _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Yes, LeBron does make more by opting in, and I think it's actually closer to 700000. The situation is quite different for Georgia course |

Option: $35,607,968
Projected cap: $101 mil - 35% max = $35,350,000
$257,968 difference - closer to $200k than $700k _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

I think the bigger benefit would be retaining his no-trade. He did a 2+1 in his last deal with Cleveland and that made him eligible to negotiate in the clause. If he opts in, consents to a trade and then extends, he gets the biggest possible deal and keeps his trade veto. That s probably interesting to him as his brand starts to become a bigger part of his value vs his on court play. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

By the way Eric, Josh Martin is really enjoyable to listen to. That voice is soothing and he’s got such an easy demeanor about him. When I saw his twitter picture I couldn’t believe that deep voice belongs to such a young fella. He’s like a cooler, friendlier version Locked On’s Harrison Faigen! |

The Cavs currently have the highest payroll in the NBA and OKC is third highest, so while the fans will surely hate to see those two leave, I have a feeling the owners won't mind it so much, considering the money they will save in Cap penalties...! _________________ “Always remember... If OKC doesn’t get PG13 back, they run the risk of losing Westbrook unless Presti replaces him with another star/superstar that will have to learn how to play with him - hence a wise move to retain him. Sad that Melo doesn’t even want to entertain a role that Manu has with the Spurs.
Unless a miracle happens with either the Rockets or 76ers get LBJ without giving up too many assets, he would be mentoring young players like what he has in Cleveland - so why would he leave.
With Randle being a mixture of PG13 and Draymond, it makes sense to keep him since he is effective in LaLa Land! |
