Top 40+1 NBA Players

Throughout the season and playoffs....I often here guys referred to as a Top 10 player or Top 20 Player.....after a while, it feels like they have referenced many more than 10 or 20 guys for those slots. I had never actually ranked players myself....so I made a Top 40 list of current players. I did 40 because I think the Top 40 are usually in the All Star discussion or on the fringes of the discussion.

I fully expect people to disagree with many of my rankings....but I do think it illustrates how difficult it actually is to be a Top 10 or 20 NBA player. One note is I somewhat contradicted myself by assuming players were healthy, but at the same time taking their injury history into consideration.

Tier 1 - Elite Superstar
1. Lebron James - SF
2. Kevin Durant - SF

Tier 2 - Superstar
3. Kawhi Leonard - SF
4. Anthony Davis - PF
5. Steph Curry - PG
6. James Harden - SG
7. Russell Westbrook - PG
8. Giannis Antetokounmpo - PF

Tier 3 - NBA Star
9. Chris Paul - PG
10. Jimmy Butler - SG
11. Kyrie Irving - PG
12. John Wall - PG
13. Damian Lillard - PG
14. DeMar DeRozan - SG
15. DeMarcus Cousins - C
16. Paul George - SF
17. Klay Thompson - SG
18. Bradley Beal - SG
19. Joel Embiid - C
20. Victor Oladipo - PG
21. Donovan Mitchell - SG

Tier 4 - All Star Level
22. Jayson Tatum - SF
23. Karl-Anthony Towns - C
24. LaMarcus Aldridge - C
25. Devin Booker - SG
26. Ben Simmons - PG
27. Al Horford - PF
28. Kevin Love - PF
29. Draymond Green - PF
30. Kyle Lowry - PG
31. Kemba Walker - PG
32. Kristaps Porzingis - PF

The specific rankings depend a lot on your criteria. I would change the order a bit, but nothing in that list seems seriously out of line.

I would put AD in tier 1.

For me, the specific ordering of the list is less interesting than the rational or criteria behind the ordering, which you don't provide. That aside, this basically seems like an okay list to me
