So the final tally will be:

Dwight Howard for Andrew Bynum, Josh McRoberts, Christian Eyenga and the 40th pick this year. Very little ultimate impact here.

Steve Nash for Nemanja Nedovic (30th), Alex Oriakhi (57th), Johnny O'Bryant (36th) and No. 10 this year.

No. 10 is a little painful, but they've basically balanced that out with either of Hart or Kuzma punching way above their weight.

Why would you look at it this way? Shouldn’t it be evaluated in terms of what we would have done w/ the picks as opposed to what the Suns n Magic did w/ the picks?

"Moving on" is bit of an oxymoron in the context of today's Laker world, isn't it ? Survival is one thing, and that was assured - barely. But until the club returns to something resembling the pre-Nash level of performance (how about playoff-worthy basketball ?), we as fans are just trying to hold-on; move-on requires the team to get off the dime and move, and it hasn't gone anywhere - yet.

The franchise and its fan base will suffer the effects of those boneheaded roster moves for several more years.

What's done is done, we did what we could to minimize the damage. Howard I think we expected more from, Nash we really should have known better. Much worse was the big contract extension we gave to Kobe, when he was old and suddenly mortal.

Great article, one little mistake was Kuzma was picked in 2017 not 2018...

You're forgetting Wes Iwundu (33rd) pick from last year's draft was part of the Orlando trade.

Looking at things completely pessimistically, for the Lakers those picks could have possibly been:

Nemanja Nedovic ---> Alan Crabb (1 pick later)
Alex Oriakhi ---> Robert Covington (Undrafted) or Seth Curry (Undrafted)
Johnny O'Bryant ---> Spencer Dinwiddie (2 picks later) or Nikola Jokic (5 picks later)
Wes Iwundu ---> Semi Ojeleye (4 picks later) or Jordan Bell (5 picks later)

However choosing to judge based on this line of thinking requires to make considerations including:

1. No guarantee the Lakers select those players either.
2. With those selections we probably perform too well to keep delaying the Dwight Howard 1st that eventually became only two 2nds and also allowed us to get Russell, Ingram, and Ball.

Finally we can stop saying it was a bad trade.
Because it was a great trade then and it was a great trade now for us.

Not so fast that 10th pick Philly got still can hurt us. Also in the end no one won the trade.

Because it's pure fantasy and hypotehtical to think about what didn't happen with those picks rather than what did. I don't have access to the Lakers draft board nor do you. You can guess all day...but you're still guessing.

I can still be a little irked that Rajon Rondo was drafted with our pick at 21 because that's what happened. I can be less irked about Randos that were were drafted with our picks because that's what happened.

So does that mean we got Kuzma for Russell......(Sorry I had to . Please forgive me).

We got lucky in the end, very, very lucky. I think it could have been much worse for us. Lotto luck was good for us, we never got the #1 pick but we managed to snag three #2's and toss in Hart and Kuzma to boot.

We definitely won the Dwight trade.
We may have lost the Nash trade. But gotta admit the anxiety of everything around our 3 number 2s was pretty excited.

Maybe this is correct.

Wesley Iwundu in the 2017 draft.

TBD by Brooklyn at #40 in the 2018 draft.

The Lakers were very fortunate to not lose any of their lottery picks until this season. In the end the lesson should be that the Lakers should not have devalued their draft picks as much as they did when people thought those first rounders would have been very low. And judging by their success in recent years finding NBA talent in the lower part of the first round, I think management moving forward will prioritize drafting and development of young players for their squad more than the previous regime.
