Los Angeles Lakers set to workout LiAngelo Ball, Lonzo Ball’s brother

Quote:
The Los Angeles Lakers are going to be working out LiAngelo Ball, Lonzo Ball’s younger brother, following the holiday weekend.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been hard at work evaluating prospects for the 2018 NBA Draft. The Lakers have held numerous pre-draft workouts. Some, such as the one that local product and USC forward, Chimezie Metu, participated in drew more attention than others. The next workout the team is holding will blow away any other workout in terms of attention.

Following the holiday weekend, the Lakers will be hosting a workout with LiAngelo Ball, the younger brother of point guard and No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Lonzo Ball.

I can't imagine Magic and Rob even having interest in him and i think this workout is more of a courtesy than anything else. Lonzo is worth putting up with his A-hole dad, but Liangelo no way!!! Especially after the comments Lavar just made blaming Lonzo's injuries this year on the Lakers trainer and his Bleeep training techniques.

Quote:
My expectation for Lonzo is for him to be twice as good as he was this year, and to be more healthy,” LaVar told HoopsHype. “He understands, he went through it. If you’re going to be doing those [workouts with] rubber-bands like that dude Gunnar has him doing, that [is] bullsh*t training. That’s what I call it. Sh*t, he wasn’t like that when I brought him over there. When he first came [to the Lakers], he never got hurt. He was never hurt.”

The rigors of the NBA's 82 game schedule can be brutal. The wear and tear on the body challenges even the best athletes. This is world-class activity.
LaVar is delusional at best. He knows that this is not college or high school.
Well I guess he got the attention that he wanted.

S.I. article:

LiAngelo Ball is set for a pre-draft workout with the Lakers on Tuesday, reports Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.

Quote:
According to Charania, he also has planned visits with the Warriors and Clippers. ESPN reports Ball will workout with St. Bonaventure's Jaylen Adams, UCLA's Thomas Welsh, Virginia's Devon Hall, Syracuse's Tyus Battle and Arizona's Dusan Ristic.

Sorry but I really don't even want him on South Bay G league team tbh. It's just too close to home.

Can't wait to hear Lavar criticize the workout while Gelo tries to steal the workout clothes that the Lakers were already going to give him. 🤣

I guess we should take this bum though if that means we are going to get Melo after that. That kid has a chance to be really good.

Imagine this. We draft Robinson at 25 and he turns out to be star. And then we draft Melo because people are worried about his Dad or they pull some shady (bleep) to become a Laker. If they turn out to be Embiid and Curry, while Zo, Ingram, Kuzma, & Hart are entering their primes, while we thank Paul George and Lebron for their 3-4 years of service... wow...

I have no problem with them including him in a workout. It is a courtesy to the Ball family and in a strange way good for the team from a media standpoint. The workout will likely be one of ESPNs lead stories and discussed ad nauseum the next morning by the talk shows.

Who knows, maybe the young man proves more then we expect. Maybe he can show enough for the Lakers (or another team) to consider him with the second round pick. Doesn’t seem likely by all reports but it is a small price to pay for the exposure. Lakers are giving him a gift with a tryout, let’s see if he can prove he deserves it.

As for Lavar, who is listening to him or giving him credibility? He is a sideshow. Who is taking his comments seriously? He falls into the category of amusing entertainment. Right there with the WWE, carnival barkers and crackpot extreme political commentors from either side of the spectrum.

If you are quoting or giving any credibility to Lavar Ball’s gimmicky sales pitch of the BBB brand you may want to reflect a bit on your own viewpoint of the world.

Gotta give LaVar credit, he's a master at promotion.
For better or worse, Lavar knows how to keep the BBB rolling right along in the media's bright light.

I wish Gelo well. I'm glad he is getting a fair shot at the league but IMO he "aint ready."

He's probably not ready and the Laker organization should not
give Lavar more proper to distract the team. IF and is say IF,
"Gelly" is slightly ready, let another team have him.

The Lakers need to build a winning team not a Big BS'r Brand.

Melo is terrible though. When I watch the video below it doesn’t exactly make LaVar look good. What has he been teaching Melo all these years?

Only if he is good enough though. I don’t want the team giving playing time to a guy that isn’t serious enough and has no shot, and taking that away from someone else who really wants to be in the NBA.

Drew league, or if he's really lucky Europe. Provided he keep his hands to himself in the sunglass aisle.

Perhaps I'm underrating him. If he tells his dad to shove off I'll turn into a fan real fast no matter where his bb skills take him.

The Lakers should exercise due diligence with this workout, but... I'm just gonna say it. I want him to fail. Forgive me, Lord.

On principle alone, unless he has the greatest workout in the history of workouts, the Lakers should want nothing to do with him. Lavar can take his two other Balls and go home.

Why should a bottom tier prospect be able to be a 1-done and hit the Gleague? Go work on your body fatboy over in Europe for a few years

That speaks more to the sad state of society than LaVar's marketing abilities.

43% say SB Lakers.
Cool. I'm glad the less vocal posters aren't hating on the kid.
I'm for giving anyone a look to see what they got.
Of course, after assessing the player, if they suck, then there's no point in keeping him. But at least take a look first.

LiAngelo was barely a player on a 5th rate Lithuania team. It's doubtful that any G-league team would want him considering the almost total lack of skill

Lakers don't need this distraction - let him go fail in Europe
