It's an antiquated event that outlived its relevance by about twenty years. Someone (Meg Greenfield, I think?) once wrote that the pageant was missing a key component: At the end, the patriarch of the tribe was supposed to take the winner away and bed her. |

This has gone too far.
Plenty of women out there still want to be objectified by men . They work hard to have nice bodies. It takes hard work and sacrifice to have a stellar, sexy bod. Why is that suddenly a bad thing?

It's a backlash to what is in the white house.

Well, I don’t know that any woman wants to be objectified by men. But clearly, there are a lot of women that don’t mind being judged on their looks. So if they don’t mind it, don’t see the problem.
Just get rid of it. Does anyone even care about it anymore? |

Are they going to interview them behind a screen like the dating game or something? Maybe they'll just phone it in. |

Isn't the outward appearance pretty much the meaning of the whole event? And I would guess also the main attraction? I don't think this will be a successful business model even though there might be enough voices supporting the decision (for political reasons). |

Knock it off. There's plenty of porn for you to objectify. It's high time we start actually teaching young women they are worth more than your appreciation of their nice body, instead of through such things as pageants, teaching them that that is their primary value. _________________ “We must always take sides. I'm not a pageant patron. I haven't watched a beauty pageant in years. I understand the changing society that wants to teach women their worth. Teaching is a misnomer because they already know their worth. I don't think changing the format of the Miss America Pageant will do much to accomplish that.
Miss America is a institution to a degree. Changing the format may help some women but it may also hurt others. You eliminate one group, install another. Which group should we hold higher?
Old adage, "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

And mask their voice while they’re at it? Haha
If this was Miss Einstein, and they were judging on looks, that would be wrong, obviously.
But is it wrong to allow a woman to be judged on her looks, if that’s what she wishes? (i.e. IG Models). |

Wow you literally spouted opposing views, in one sentence.
Impressive even by your standards.
Since we cant objectify women in a pageant anymore, lets just burka them up and have them tell us super important things like this |

Do men watch Miss America/Miss Universe? I thought it was catered to women and its demographic. |

Nah, not conflicting. I’m not against people doing what they want, but I think pageants are marketed as wholesome and mainstream, and the women in them as ideals of femininity. Porn actresses are just porn actresses, and while I support their right to pursue their trade, they aren’t held up as role models. There’s nuance in the world my friend, it isn’t porn or a burka. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Seems odd to me a woman who won the pageant on looks wants to change the format. I wonder what her motivation to do so is? _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I honestly didn't know they were different titles from different pageants until I read this. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |
