Maryland forward Kevin Huerter, a projected first-round pick in the June NBA Draft, underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right hand, sources tell ESPN. He will be sidelined for two months.
Apologies if it's old news, but on today's Ringer NBA show Kevin O'Connor mentioned the Lakers are looking to acquire a pick in the middle of the draft. He said the player they're rumored to be focused on is Zhaire Smith. It's also going to be talked about in a video that should be out shortly.

That's random. They had to have had a private workout then?
I don't know what Smith's camp gains by announcing it, though, and this kind of leak hurts the Lakers chances of moving up without an overpay.
But if it's true, 44TL is going to be upset. _________________ Under New Management

A salary dump to the Hawks on Deng + Baron Humongous's favorite whipping boy, Brandon Ingram, for their #19? Or Lonzo.
Technically in the middle if you're considering 10-20 the middle. Or #13 to the Clips for the same package. Don't see another way they move there... #25 + whatever?? Meh. Rumors.
Maybe Zaire's stock was waning so his reps threw this out there to get the water boiling again. "OMG the LAKERS want Zaire!! Ok put him back in the lottery range!" Look at who this benefits by throwing it out there...

Ingram and Deng to the Clippers for #13 to select Smith? BI is my whipping boy, but I don't think that low of him.
Maybe Zo or Kuzma are going out in this scenario? I value Ball more than Ingram, but I can definitely see some GMs preferring Ingram in a vacuum as a conventional upside play. _________________ Under New Management

My apologies, I'd thought a clean Deng dump would suffice to trade Ingram for you. And getting a late lotto pick in return would've been the icing on the cake.
Unless there's someone else at 13 you'd think would be worth that deal?

Are they trying to mold him into short Kawhi or something? _________________ Resident Car Nut.

No, I blur the line between trolling and my own evaluation of him as a good, raw prospect I project to be in the 20-35 range of NBA players (fringe All-Star) at his peak. That's a potentially dangerous player to spend 25-30% of a team's cap on if they're not providing more off-ball equity than Ingram currently provides.
Thinking about it more, I'd prefer the Lakers stay at #25 and see if Melton falls (I like him more than Smith) because #12/13 is a strange zone in this draft where a number of upside-y, low floor guys like Knox, Smith, Walker, SGA, Sexton, etc. are projected to go. If one of the Bridges or Wendell Carter fell to the late lottery, I could maybe get behind the move. _________________ Under New Management

If Smith was 6'7, I'd be all over it. _________________ Under New Management
Huerter was not given a promise by Atlanta at #19 per Jeremy Woo:

From my understanding of the situation, Kevin Huerter was dealing with his hand injury at the combine and played through it during workouts in the week that followed. He was shut down after obtaining a promise from a team picking in the 20s. Draft stock not in danger.
Doesn't mean teams in the teens won't pick him, but I'd bet on the Lakers making him a promise and then the kid shutting it down to get his hand healed. _________________ Under New Management
