I honestly do not know what will happen because I do not know enough about the cap or all the different things that goes into it.

I will say this though, if we get Lebron and George, think about it, whose the odd man out? I say it's Brandon Ingram. And as much as Brandon has grown on me, I think he'll be the odd man out and here's a couple of reasons why:

1. He practically plays the same position as LBJ and Paul G.

2. You may be able to package him with Deng and actually get a solid veteran back in return and maybe even score a draft pick?

3.As much as he improves, his potential still has a big question mark?

4.His thin frame and style of play makes (and recent injuries) me think that he's injury prone. I say he's high risk and probably will never reach superstar level. I say he's borderline very good to allstar at his best......so if we move him now (while he his value his high, contract is cheap) it will allow us to keep Randle (who to me has the better body and potential) and Kuzma who is the kind of in-between player that you want on your team. Kuzma is the type of guy who can start or come off the bench and just give you buckets and he'll be able to adjust to playing with Paul George or Lebron in whatever role you give him...plus he's cheaper and has less years in the league.

5. DONT EVER MORTGAGE YOUR YOUTH FOR THE NOW. LONZO, KUZMA, RANDLE, HART, ARE THE GUYS THAT WILL HELP LBJ AND GEORGE TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND BE HERE AFTER...IF YOU HAVE TO GET RID OF ONE, I SAY BI IS THE ODD GUY OUT AND WE SITLL HAVE A SOLID CORE OF YOUTH.

If we get the 2 max to commit then I see Deng being dumped to a team with one of our young guys, along with our pick next year and maybe a pickswap the season after. That'd be the likely outcome since you'd be going for a 3 year championship window that has no place for rookies.

Extend Stretch he's on the cap for 3 mil a year for the next 11 years is also an option, this way we don't give up any assets at the expense of a future cap handicap. It sounds like a minor handicap going forward but the length of it is what should give the FO doubt.

Any news on what Deng is up to this summer?

Is he working out? Improving his game?

Maybe he will be amazing next season and help the team with LeBron.

Maybe?

1/2 joking...but can he be any good? Keep him?

Deng can play the Mbah a Moute role ... assuming Deng is really 33 and not 43!

What to do with Luol Deng’s contract?
Quote:
A large part of the Los Angeles Lakers opening up maximum cap space will be their handling of Luol Deng’s contract, including partnering him with a promising young player to offload the salary.

I still believe Deng has something left in the tank.

Laker fans are going to be irate if he goes somewhere else next season and is like a 6MOY contender.

The maing thing with Deng is he didn't keep up with the game.

He was always a player highly dependable on his athletics. As the game started demanding more shooting from perimeter players, he should've either started shooting or bulked up and working on being an improved rebounder/defender to be an useful PF.

He did neither and now we are where we are.

Say just pg13 comes and Lopez goes elsewhere. I could see Deng back as a 15 minute a game backup big man.

Exactly why they have been resting him for 2 seasons.

I’d bet the farm that he does.

If he is stretched, look for Houston to snag him up quickly, and everyone here to be completely perplexed that he can still play well and contribute.

I'm willing to bet he isn't snatched up that quickly and a lot of teams would take a chance in an undrafted or g league player instead

honestly it's pretty dumb that we literally never played him after the first game; that really tanked his value

of course there's the point to be made that if we gave him burn maybe he looks so bad that his value is even lower than it is right now, but his value was already pretty damn low before the season started so I doubt it

Is there a way to prove he is older than he says so they can cut him? Lol

Per the CBA Faq:
Quote:
There are actually several types of guarantees:

Lack of skill: A "catch-all" that means the player cannot play well enough to justify remaining on the team.
Death: The player dies while under contract.
Basketball-related injury: The player cannot render his playing services as a direct result of an injury sustained while playing or practicing for the team.
Injury/illness: The player cannot render his playing services as a direct result of any illness or injury, whether or not it was basketball related.
Mental disability: The player cannot render his playing services as a direct result of a mental disability.

I think a couple of these have to explicitly be written in, but maybe they weren't playing him to build their case of his "lack of skill" to cut him. That's mean, but it's so odd they played him ONE game and then no más.

I think he gets packaged with a young player for a pick back this draft, like Russell. Either that, or getting traded for Plumlee or Felicio for favorable stretched dead money.

wouldn't it be easier to cut off a leg and count the growth rings?

It’d also be poetic justice to see Deng end up in Atlanta after that whole Danny Ferry fiasco.

Seriously though, I really think Atlanta is the Lakers ONLY real hope at dumping him with multiple picks attached.

Hoping that Travis Schlenk really values his veteran mentors.

I just heard the Grizzlies are shopping the #4 pick to get rid of Chandler Parsons' contract with the Hawks as a possible destination. Parsons makes about 6m more per year but seems like the #4 is way more than we will offer to unload Deng.

If I was the Grizzlies I shop Marc/Conley and go into full tank mode for the next two seasons while Parsons expires. Seems crazy to give up the #4 when you should be rebuilding.

Supposedly Luke asked Deng if he wanted to be played essentially garbage time minutes since KUZ basically came out of nowhere to earn minutes, and Deng wasn’t interested.

There may be more minutes for Deng this next year, assuming we cant find a reasonable offer to dump him. If Lopez doesn't re-sign, and we either release or trade Zubac and/or Bryant, Deng could have plenty of minutes as a backup PF/small ball C. He does have the advantage of being a better perimeter shooter over Randle, so especially if we go small-ball next year, Deng may get those minutes behind Randle at center.

Couldn't they just extend Luol Deng on a very cheap deal for the end of his current deal and then stretch him and thus cost themselves less per year?
