Would have prefered to bring Brook back, but clearly that wasn't the Lakers' strategy.
Small ball has become a dominant strategy in the league. Teams run true bigs off the floor. The only point where it makes sense to commit to a (non-star) true big is in the earlier parts of games. The reason for that is foul trouble risk. There is a lot of contact in the post and you don't want the other team to be able to play a big that gets your smaller lineup in foul trouble early.
As the game goes on, risk of fouling out goes down and the pendulum swings to small ball. These days that happens pretty quickly. If your team strategy is going to be pace, playmaking, switching and spacing, you don't invest much if anything in the true big category. McGee gives you a mobile anchor who can give you 18 mpg, Zubac is a big body that excels with a true PnR ball handler and Wagner appears to be a good spacer. But what this is really saying is that you're committing to playing forwards at the five a significant amount of time. That's going to be interesting in certain matchups.
If we're talking playoffs, Adams, Gobert, Davis and Embiid (East) are the ones we would be hard pressed to match up with (discounting others like Nurkic b/c I think we beat them anyway). Perhaps they expect there to be Centers on the buyout market. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.
Wtf why wouldn't he just stay here for that amount of money?
Two most likely explanations: He thinks his role on the Bucks will allow him to garner a better contract next year, or the Lakers didn't offer him the same amount of money or more.
Stu Lantz is happy about this, he really seemed irritated when he was mentioning about Lopez having low rebounding numbers.
And Stu hated him staying out near the 3pt line _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
I think Mo can play the backup 5 spot. He will be going against NBA backup 5s so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Also, I can see LB or Kuz playing the 5 to closeout some games as well.
I wont be losing sleep over this. Was never a fan of his weak game, a center who can't grab a rebound. And worst of all, he never knew when to stop shooting when his shot was off. Some players need to keep shooting when they miss, he isn't one of them players.

If our strategy will be to be a small ball fast breaking team, we still have to outrebound the other team to get our break going. If Kuzma or Lebron is playing at the 5 sometimes I wonder if we'll have enough rebounding to be a real good team. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers
Didn't really like him last season. He's better than what we have on the roster currently at Center but he was lackluster af for us. Terrible rebounder, poor shot selection, and 0 rim protection. He won't be the difference between winning it all.
I think we have 3 centers that will all get playing time based on matchup and situations. Idk I could be wrong but magic basically told us at the press conference that he expects his draft picks to play.
Why are we loosing legit players like Randle & Lopez ☹️
I'm reserving judgment on roster decisions until they're really done making moves around training camp time - but those players really helped LA take that leap this year that made them an attractive option. _________________ Austin Reaves
