We were bottom of the league in FT shooting last season and signed 4 below average FT shooters this offseason. I don't think it takes a Laker hater to run with a narrative of this team needing more shooting.
Having said that, I do think our 3 point shooting will be better than the critics think. Lebron is the best in the league at creating open 3 point shooters and then finding then, plus I think our young guys will keep developing as they get more comfortable with NBA range.
That line-up can keep up with any shooting team in the league
Nice shooting lineup, but if one of those guys had to step up and ice 2 FTs to seal a championship - would you have complete confidence in any of them?
If my life was on the line, I'd pick Kuz just because he seems to live for the big moments.

Yeah, free throws will be a problem. Lots of frustration in the playoffs incoming.
We ended up ranked 22nd last year in 3 point shooting, and signed a couple non-shooters (Lance/Rondo). The criticism is fair. With that said, we could shoot way up if our shooters improve, and if Lonzo improves his shot.
Lonzo is the biggest wild card - If he can start making his threes, the team will be very dangerous.

Man if Ball can start hitting his shot we will be dangerous

Lonzo's 30% shooting on 6 attempts really drags the team down. I'm confident he'll be at least 35% this season. _________________ KOBE
The National Media saw what Lonzo did from the 3pt line last season and there is no way to spin that as a positive.
Luke needs to limit him to ONE 3-pointer per quarter, if he makes that ONE, he has the green light to take another, if he makes that, he can take a third, if he misses number TWO, he is done for that quarter, he can pass the ball to someone else, that's the job requirement for his position.
I'm tired of defenses backing off of him when he is outside the 3pt line and laugh when he misses 70% of his shots from there...! _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
You must've missed the worst free throw shooting and second worst 3 pt shooting team in the league last year. And we didn't exactly add shooters rookies excluded because you never know if rookies will even play much.
One thing about Isiah Thomas last year was that he was money at the free throw line. Shot 92% for the Lakers. It was like finally a Laker would make their free throws because everyone else was brick brick brick.

And our other PG, Rondo, is even worse... _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

I agree with the Lonzo theory on making the team look like they can't shoot. I honestly don't remember the team having alot of trouble scoring the basketball.
They did finish 11th in PPG last year, and Cleveland finished 9th. The Cavs offense was not the problem in the regular season, it was their defense.
I do think they have the potential to be a top 9 defense. I think they will be around 10th in ppg and 10th in opp fg%

Yeah but Rondo way smarter with the shot selection at this point in his career.

it's just not at the end of games. it's the constant bricking that's going to do us in. look how the warriors just turn it up in the 3rd quarter. they dont miss free throws and they have 3pt shooters to spare. so when we play them, what are we going to do during that 3rd quarter? maybe we can play some D, but most likely we're going to get outscored.

We got a lot of shooters but we are a bit lite at center. No a good shooting center would be nice but we just cut one in Bryant so that doesn't seem like a priority.

its all very puzzling to me. Lopez was cut too, and he might have been the last proven shooter we had left. But when I listen to the fanbase, I don't see us valuing shooters. We constantly crap on anybody who is good at shooting, and heap praises for defenders and rebounders and other uselss stats. And we have this unreasonable faith that these new guys are going to blossom like klay, curry, etc. for the warriors. lol!
nick young: was constantly trashed while here. Good shooter, now gone.
Lou: again, constantly trashed, Gone. OH, he needs the ball too much. He will hurt the growth of our players who cant shoot worth crap. and i believe there was also this idea that we can get guys like him, dime a dozen.
Lopez: gone. cheap. yea, he wasn't great last year, but he can shoot a three.
IT: awesome shooter! but of course, the smallest guy in the league. can we just get a normal height good shooter, please? and hes gone too it looks like.
Clarkson: gone. our best scorer. oh, what a ballhog, i'd rather have someone who plays defense. lol.
but we have Lebron! the great player who shoots 75% free throws and 40% from three if hes open.
Rondo: yay! (I am happy about him but) same guy the lakers would just let shoot in the FINALS! and btw, Spurs used to do that to Lebron. and we have both! whoopee. I guess we'll get a lot of rebounds and stuff with all these bricks. maybe we'll be the best rebounding team in the league, lol....not good!
Someone tell me why we still "desperately" need shooters with:
KCP
Hart
Kuz
Svi
Wagner
BI will probably be better
Even Rondo has averaged 35.7% from 3 the last FOUR seasons and 42.1% during the the last playoffs.
We are gonna be way better from 3 than last year, and with Randle gone, that means more shots going to Kuz, Lebron, and even Wagner, all of whom will space the floor better than Randle.
All Melo will do is take a massive amount of shots away from our young guys, stunting their development and reducing their value to the team.
Amen dude! Lots of lazy analysis around here the last few weeks focusing way too much on Stephenson aka “The Cheerleader”/11th Man.
I think it's fairly obvious that they didn't sign Stephenson to be an 11th man. He was an immediate signing after LeBron. Teams don't typically rush to sign the 11th man on the second day of free agency. Nor would our franchise player have requested him if he's only going to be an 11th man. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. The main culprits in the low 3 point shooting percentage last season were Lonzo, Clarkson, Lopez, and Thomas in the games he played. Three are gone and Lonzo has a good chance to improve considering his percentage in college and the upward trend as the season went on. On the other hand Stephenson probably won't help and it's hard to be sure about Rondo, but at least he doesn't chuck like a madman. Overall, I think we'll see a better 3 point shooting team next season, at least middle of the pack.

Rob made a good point in todays presser.
He said the league average for the elite "3Pt specialist" are between 38-42%, and our current constructed roster doesnt seem too bad in that department.
I think out 3P% becomes an addition by subtraction situation.
Additions
SviMy 44.4% @ Kansas / 39.1% in Summer League
James 36.7%
Rondo 33.3%
Lance S 28.9%
Average: 34.5%
Subtractions (players who played over 40 games with us)
BroLo 34.5%
JC 32.4% in 53 games
Randle 22.2%
Nance Jr 12.5 % in 42 games
TEnnis 25.0 % in 54 games
Brewer 18.6% in 54 games
Average: 24.6%
So, not counting the improvements players will make, we could be around 12-20th, middle of the pack as a team, which is a big improvement from 29th overall last year.
