If I'm not mistaken (do correct me if I'm wrong), we still have the room exception left and there haven't been any takers on Len.
8.5/7.5/ just about 1 block, .33% from 3 on 3.1 attempts in only 20mpg. Pretty mobile, in limited minutes averaged 2.5 offensive boards per game which ranked 13th among centers. Seems to me he's perfect to shore us up at the C spot. Am I missing something? I say we shoot him an offer and see if he can tap into that #5 pick potential. Just turned 25 and could be a steal. |

I think you are right, Lakers have the full MLE of $4.4m since they signed Stephenson using the remaining cap space. Couple remaining free agents I'd be interested in are:
Alex Len - He's been a decent contributor when healthy but that hasn't been very often. I do like him as a low risk, high reward player.
Noah Vonleh - Another low risk, high reward player. Can play C when we go small.
Wayne Ellington - best 3 point shooter remaining on the market.
Jarrett Jack - Veteran presence and PG depth behind Ball and Rondo
Channing Frye - Stretch PF/C to provide limited minutes and veteran presence. Finished last season with the Lakers and has history with Lebron.
Dwyane Wade - Last option if Lebron insists on having a friend in the locker room. Has somewhat negative history with Rondo from their time with the Bulls. Doesn't really fit the team needs.
Carmelo Anthony - Please pass on him. Lakers offense is predicated on ball movement. Carmelo is an ISO player that stops the ball to get into the triple threat position. I think he's still a good player on the right team, it's just not the Lakers. |

Len, Ellington or Vonleh would get a thumbs up from me. All fill areas of need and Ellington was productive for us.
Carmelo has a ton of utility left if he can accept that his best role is off the bench as an instant offense, spot-up threat who can close out quarters / possessions if it comes to that. He could easily put up the same numbers or better than last season while contributing to a contending team if he could do what Iverson couldn't in this position and put his ego to the side. I don't believe Carmelo is washed up at all, but his days as a premier player in the league have passed him by. I don't think he's gonna play within himself, so I would pass. |
