tbqh that was the best element in the whole thing. The meat was awful, bread 1 week past its sell-by, the cheese was american, the avocado was a couple of days premature.

Go ahead. Say another word about American cheese.

it brings shame to both america and to cheese.

There is a legitimate American cheese, but you have to get it from a deli counter or a cheese shop. Kraft singles do not count.

American cheese is cheese in the way that Boone’s Farm is wine.

never considered raiding the fridge to hack up a sandwich. And even if I had all the stuff to make a good late night sandwich, 9 times out of 10 Im still just jumping in my car and getting something to take home.

You guys can have all the arugula and brioche bun burgers you can eat. Just try not to get any on your white gloves. Perhaps an aged chevre for your grilled cheeses? FOH.

typical american reactionary aggression

gotta agree on the arugula thing, though. father's office is a sham

Lol. This is a classic example of the false dichotomy fallacy. I don’t have to drink Boone’s Farm or else I only drink 300 dollar bottles of Bordeaux. It’s fine to have a ridiculously low quality bar that you tend not to go below. You’re entitled to your taste, and I wouldn’t dream of trying to say you can’t do it, but let’s not pretend you’re defending something that warrants it. It’s oretty crap food. We all have our weaknesses, let’s not try to make them virtues.

Ah but in the proper context American cheese IS a virtue. There is a special place for it, whereas there is no place for Boone's Farm in any context.

There’s plenty of places for Boone’s Farm. It goes well, for example, with foods made with and from American cheese.

Btw, I’m just messing with you. There are some quite good American cheeses. As long as they are real cheese of course.

I'll make you a deal. We strap you to a polygraph. I make you a burger topped with good old processed melty American cheese. A law enforcement officer is present. I ask you one question: was that delicious? If you answer yes, the machine verifies the truth. If you say no, the machine explodes from registering a lie that massive and the officer takes you to jail.

I recall a scene from the show on Food Network called The Best Thing I Ever Ate. They've seemingly been re-running that for more years than Gilligan was on TV. The chefs gush over some other chef's specialties that they found and this NO/French Quarter chef who was trying to discern the type of cheeses, plural, in said dish and he found out the guy was using nothing more than American cheese, and this guy said it was the best cheese dish he ever had. So, I guess the moral is, talented people can extend the equipment they're stuck with to a level that normal folk can't. Jimmy Page would've somehow made the cheapest electric guitar sound as good as it possibly could. Btw, I also heard that most fondues in America are bastardized versions. We don't do it right. For that, you gotta use the good stuff.

Most places do.

The problem is that most people think of the individually wrapped Kraft processed cheese type food slices as American cheese. That stuff and its brethren fully deserve the ire that some here have expressed.

That is not American cheese any more than Steak Ums is steak. Go to a good cheese shop and ask to try their American cheese.

I didn’t get her name.

The worst thing I ever ate between two buns...
