No, that is exactly what it means. Your market is where your customers are. |
Ive been to Lakers games in the midwest where nice %'s of the crowds are Laker fans. Never feel awkward |

Sounds like even when healthy, Kawhi will permanently be playing in pain. That's not a fun thing to have linger on long term in your career. _________________ |

My intention is to leave the San Antonio Spurs at the end of the season. Until the time I am traded or the season is over, I will ne a professional, I will meet the obligations of my contract to this team and I will give 110% for this team every time I step on the court. However, management knows my position and so it is up to them to decide what to do knowing I will no longer be a Spur under any circumstances after this season. That is all." |
Why wait until training camp? He could likely get trade talks re-energized if he could show he is healthy and near the player he was. A “leaked” work out video would do wonders. Show us some lateral quickness and shooting drills. Doing sprints? And maybe more importantly the recovery time the next day.
Maybe I’m just too cynical but I’m thinking his injury is worse and more career altering then he is letting on. My biggest concern still remains a “healthy” Leonard will be enticing to trade for but a “healthy” Leonard may still have long term lingering effects.
How much are you giving up and then paying a diminished Leonard that misses significant time? The descriptions I have seen discuss risk of re-injury due to repeated use and intense activity. Like a long NBA season? Is he worth the risk if the 20 games he misses are the playoffs? Or if he rushes back for the playoffs too soon?
I need some evidence he still is and can still be the dynamic player we all remember before I am willing to risk valuable assets on the very real possibility he will never consistently be that player again. |
Wouldn't you agree that nobody in the world has more actual data as it pertains to his injury than Kawhi himself (and his advisors)?
And, assuming any of the bad scenarios you described have any possibilities of happening, wouldn't it be much smarter to force Spurs hand into offering him a super-max (which he is eligible for this summer) instead of putting all potential earnings at risk?
That would be just dumb on his part |
I have no clue on his or his inner circle's motivations.
Maybe he really wants out of SA. He is willing to sacrifice the initial loss of $30-35M because he believes he will make it up in shoe deals or 1 +1 contracts that give him options every year. Maybe one of those weird dudes that can be fine with $150M in order to get his way.
Or maybe SA did not actually offer him a super max or any significant contract without medical assurances or team opt outs if he does not perform as expected.
Lots of rumors and leaks but was a SA offer ever confirmed? Have they seen him practice lately? Apparently his people "hid" him from SA reps in NY? To avoid confrontation or to avoid that stories of his rehab are being positively overstated by Leonard's people?
Perhaps the Spurs are willing to risk giving him a max contract for marketing as much as on court performance. The overpay is not as critical for them. They don't have to give up valuable assets for the privilege to do so.
Leonard and his potential trade is the biggest story of the summer along with James. Yet the specifics of his injury and his ability to be the player we want him to be are pretty damn vague. And have been for weeks if not months.
Not one report, tweet or leaked video of him working out? Sorry, I'm suspicious. |

And you have the right to be suspicious - it's your prerogative and absolute right.
I think you're missing my point though. Which is: Kawhi and his people do know how 'injured' he really is. If he is, indeed, damaged goods (which is your concern) - their first and foremost priority would have to be securing as much money as possible. there is only one way to do it - with the Spurs. the fact that he is risking it all and wants to go tells me (at the very least) that he is fully confident - there is no problem. Not because he is concerned with assets given in a trade for him - but because he is fully confident that he will be able to go next season and perform where his next team (be it the Lakers or anyone else) shells out the max money like it is a no-brainer.
I hope, I made my point better second time around _________________ Major bullets dodged: DH12 - twice, LMA, Melo - twice, PG-13, DeMar DeRozan. Hit jackpot with DH-12 at the right time |

I'm feeling more and more comfortable not trading for Leonard. I don't want to give up a single young guy. Let's get Kawhi next summer. We have the opportunity to win now and win in the future by keeping the young core. |

I wouldn't mind Kawhi going to the Raptors. Win the east, then lose to Lebron again |

Yeah, it would be nice if Toronto knocks off Boston in the playoffs. |
