We could use an elite sniper, but other than that, I think we are fine. I actually like the strategy MagLenka are putting together.

There is almost no realistic scenario in which we could have acquired shooters that can compete with GSW. So I do like the strategy of doubling down and doing something else really well if you can’t beat them at their game.

Reminds me of the Shaq days. Teams would have been better off trying to outrun us than beating us up down low and going big.

I love the way the team is looking. May need a kink or iron or two over the next year, but way to go Lakers!

You get the feeling people dont have faith in Hart, Kuz, Ingram. If Ball has any shot this year, nobody will want to face us.

3 point shooting last season:

Ingram: 39%
Kuzma: 36.6%

for that matter:
Hart: 39.6%
KCP: 38.3%

We have shooters.

Really, it's Lonzo that only shot 30.5% from 3 last year on high volume, and brought the average down.

Rob made a good point in todays presser.
He said the league average for the elite "3Pt specialist" are between 38-42%, and our current constructed roster doesnt seem too bad in that department.

I think out 3P% becomes an addition by subtraction situation.

Additions
SviMy 44.4% @ Kansas / 39.1% in Summer League
James 36.7%
Rondo 33.3%
Lance S 28.9%
Average: 34.5%

Subtractions (players who played over 40 games with us)
BroLo 34.5%
JC 32.4% in 53 games
Randle 22.2%
Nance Jr 12.5 % in 42 games
TEnnis 25.0 % in 54 games
Brewer 18.6% in 54 games
Average: 24.6%

Returning
Hart 39.6%
Ingram 39%
KCP 38.3%
Kuzma 36.6%
Lonzo 30.5%
Average: 36.8%

So, not counting the improvements players will make, we could be around 12-20th, middle of the pack as a team, which is a big improvement from 29th overall last year.

Step your game up Lonzo, you're dragging the home grown guys down

Lonzo's definitely the one that needs to step up his shooting the most. He's really gotta his his FTs at atleast a 65% and 3pt at 35%. Hopefully the shooting coach that Magic said we'd bring in this year will help him and the rest of the team.

If you’re referring to his knee injury, I don’t think it’ll prevent him from working this summer. And I don’t recall the Lakers saying that either. They’ve said he’ll be ready for training camp. I don’t see how he could be ready for training camp if the knee injury will prevent him from working this summer.

If they’re at the bottom of the league in 3 point percentage again then their free throw percentage will have to be drastically better. You can’t be at the bottom in both categories and expect to be a winning team.

Nice. Another thing worth noting IMO, is that they hit at these percentages without a legit defense drawing option. These guys should, in theory, be more wide open now.

Post-All star break, we shot 36.8% from 3. If we sustained that over the course of a season, we would have been 11th in the league in 3pt% last season. Also, keep in mind the following:

*We just replaced Randle (who shot 0.5 3s per game at 22%) with Lebron (who shot 5 3s per game at 37%)
*Rondo shot 33.3% from 3 last season, which was better than both IT (32.7%) and Ball (30.5%).
*Ball will improve his 3pt shooting next season.
*We drafted two 3pt shooters - Wagner and Svi.
*We didn't have a player of Lebron's gravity last year and didn't shoot nearly as many open 3pt shots as we will next year because of it.

I think we should be, at the least, an average 3pt shooting team, if not in the top half of the league next year. That may not be as good as Cleveland was last year from 3, but it will be close.

I like that lineup a lot as well.

I also like Lonzo in place of Hart and Svi in place of KCP as a lineup:

Lonzo
Svi
BI
Kuz
LBJ

I have a feeling Lonzo becomes a much higher percentage shooter this season from 3 and the FT line.

To put things in perspective, the Rockets are known as an elite 3 point shooting team. Yet they shot 36.2% from downtown last season, which was only 13th in the NBA. In the playoffs, they were pretty bad: 33.7%, which was 13th (out of 16 teams).

As others said I'm more concerned about our lack of FT shooting, since many playoff games are decided by that. Also, will we be a good enough rebounding team? This roster looks like a fast break team, but you can't run if you don't get the ball first.

How about we sign a stretch 4 for depth like Channing Frye? He's another vet with playoff experience (won 2016 championship w/ Lebron, went to WCF in 2010).

Plenty shooters on this team. Kuzma, BI, Hart, LAbron, La Dirk and Myalcoholic can all potentially shoot 40%.

Everyone (me included) keeps forgetting about KCP, who is probably our best 3pt shooter currently.

It could go either way.

We don't have anyone who is a proven 3-point shooter over multiple years. Most of the guys who were our best 3 point shooters last year (Hart, Ingram, Caldwell-Pope) had career highs which they could sustain or they could fall back.

We are in uncharted territory with the kind of team the Lakers built around Lebron, and seeing how the young guys develop. Should be fun to watch, but I'm not making any predictions myself.

Enough is a relative term. Does that mean enough to win a championship? Or does it mean enough to win their division? Or does it just mean enough to win a lot of games? I believe they can definitely win a lot of games.

Ingram needs to get his attempts up before being called a shooter. He took less than two a game last season.

We can't really just average the %'s...we have to take volume into account as well. INgram shooting 39% on 1.8 attempts a game can't be weighed the same as Lonzo shooting 30.5% on 5.7 attempts.

Yeah, the numbers don't mean much (that was obvious when the first numbers listed are from a rookie's college and summer league shooting).

I'd summarize it this way: If Lebron plays PF, he's a big improvement over guys we had last year.

Our center shooting, without Lopez, is weak right now, but who knows who's going to play center.

Otherwise, we added a bunch of crappy shooters, and got rid of one bad gunner (Clarkson).

Whether we improve or not, right now, looks mostly dependent on the Lebron effect.

The Lakers three point shooting should be fine. Especially if the guys that are suppose to take the shots, take them. Iggy and Draymond are sub 30% shooters, but they playmaker for the guys who are great shooters in Steph, KD and Klay. Rondo and Lance should be able to do that.

Korver is suppose to be a sniper, and he made two shots in the finals. The days of having specialist like Korver are over. With the way GS switches, you need guys who can do multiple things, and guys like Korver, and McDermott can't stay on the floor against the Warriors.
