Wagner - B
Svi - A
Bonga - D
Bonga pick is a bit out of their comfort zone. Scouting team seems to do best with experienced 3/4 yr college players. South Bay Lakers staff have to work cut out on this one. Extremely raw.
Lebron - A+
KCP B
Rondo B
Stevenson D
McGee - C
Stevenson I guess was Lebron's pick? Lance has only played well for Indiana.
McGee's only problem is his stamina. |

Svi: Pass (Pass/No-Pass)
Wagner: Pass (Pass/No-Pass)
Svi: Pass (Pass/No-Pass)
McGee: C
Rondo: B
KCP: C
Stephenson: C
Bonga: D
Adding a starter quality player (Rondo) and a former MVP gets this team into the conversation for the first round of the playoffs. Mission accomplished, though the signings of two starters (KCP and McGee) are disappointing enough to keep Magic Johnson's grade at a "B". |

How the hell is Svi not an “A” from all of you?
Second rounder who is beasting in summer league showing more than first rounders and the bs scouting reports...
Arguably best shooter on the team already. |

Wagner: B, let's see how he develops on defense
Svi: A+, much more than expected for #47
Bonga: C, just to give a grade, but we I need one year to judge him better
Lebron: A+++, game changer
KCP: C+, I like him, but a bit too expensive.
Rondo: B- , I don't like him, but I agree he can be key for Lonzo's development
Stephenson: D-, signed for his reputation, not his game.
McGee: A-, given the price. _________________ .... |

Arguably best shooter on the team already. | Exactly, for the 47th pick that's got to be a solid A. Don't know if he can do that during the regular season but you've got to like what he's shown so far. _________________ Ringo "You retired too?"

Draft Players
1. Wagner: B- (I like the energy he brings but his shooting hasn't been there. Should improve as he gets more comfortable)
2. Bonga: D (could've bought a later 2nd round pick to pick him up since he only worked out for the Lakers. De'anthony Melton or Bruce Brown were still available)
3. Svi: B+ (Better than expected during summer league. Gives good effort on defensive end but lack of length concern me long term)
Free Agent Players
1. Lebron: A+ (Best player in the game today)
2. KCP (resign): B (probably part of the Lebron deal since they share agents)
3. Rondo: B+ (good mentor for Lonzo at a position we had no depth in)
4. Stevenson: C (The wing position is deep and Stephenson is too unreliable)
5. McGee: B+ (good mobile C who can protect the rim on a cheap contract)

that was not the reason for the grade, that was a response to an explicit question. The grade was based on watching Wagner for 3 seasons at Michigan (to be honest, it was more like 2 seasons that I mostly recall him)....and being confident there were multiple if not many other prospects on the board @ #25 with more ability and talent. I think it was a terrible pick, and I expect that will prove out as several players taken after Wagner will be more effective in the NBA....although I would prefer to be wrong. |

Talk about premature exclamations!
Pretty much everything that Magic and Pelinka have done has worked out marvelously.
They traded away several poor contracts to open up enough room to sign Lebron and in return received draft choices that have resulted in players that may be better that those they sent away.
They have enough space for another max contract in summer 2019.
The 2017 NBA Draft netted the Lakers three strong players. It didn't become clear how strong the draft was until a year later--it is too early to grade the 2018 NBA Draft.
They assembled a Summer League team consisting of one 2017 late first round draft choice, one (now injured) 2018 late first round draft choice, one 2018 mid second round draft choice and a bunch of undrafted players that will play later today in Summer League Championship game. This team has consisyently beat teams that have multiple lottery draft choices on their rosters.
Pretty much every complaint that posters have made about Magic and Pelinka over the past year has shown that the complaint is wrong and Magic and Pelinka were correct.
As of this moment, Magic and Pelinka have straight A's. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

I could debate several of the points you made in the margins....but this statement is simply false. The 2017 draft was projected to be a once in a decade draft in 2016. During, Summer League, many considered those projections to be near confirmed.
A year later, nothing has changed on the overall opinion of the 2017 draft. If anything....maybe there is an argument it has yet to live up to it's full potential with Fultz's missed season, some of Ball's struggles shooting, and guys like Monk having a poor showing.....but I think guy's like Mitchell, Kuzma, Anunoby, and Hart have offset those disappointments. |

Actually, I was referring to the Lakers draft in 2017. Right now, it is very clear that the Lakers drafted very well in 2017. The first sentence in the paragraph referred to the Lakers drafting well so I thought the context was clear. My fault. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

Yea you can’t argue with Magic and Pelinka at this point especially when it comes to the 2017 draft. All 3 first round picks have shown all star potential. This year Mo looked really good despite shooting poorly(which was supposed to be his best quality) and Svi has been great without even considering his draft position. Bonga may be the worst player on the summer league team but considering the history with our picks and his age and size, I don’t even think we can be upset about that pick. |
