Too many good all star caliber players in the west as it is. I think only LeBron will get this

Ingram or Ball. Best guess is Ingram because Ball's daddy generate's so much hatred that Lonzo will need to put together an undeniable case to make it.

While they would all need to take a leap in production, the only young players on our team capable of becoming an All Star are Ball and Kuzma. Ingram for example is far below them in popularity. Of course turning into a beast could change things.

I very much doubt Ball can make the cut with all the two way PG talent in the West (Steph, Russ, C. Paul, Lilliard..), I don't see it at all. I don't know if Ingram and Kuz get a fair shake given LeBron is obviously in...

The Warriors would look forward to that, they will likely have 4 actual All Stars.

GSW also placed a little bet on Cousins for the end of next season. IF (big
IF) he recovers late next season, we'd be potentially facing 4 all stars + Cousins.

Will be tough to unseat current guys. Maybe in a few years for Lonzo/BI/Kuz but not next year. Remember, LBJ takes away a spot that BI/Kuz would be trying to get in with.

Nick Van Exel
Eddie Brown
Kobe Bryant
Shaquille O'Neal

4 All Stars. Swept out the WCF.

The last team to make 5 straight NBA Finals was the 1965-66 Boston Celtics. Injuries, roster changes, beefs between players - those things happen and cripple the best of teams.

I said they would all need to improve. It depends on how the Lakers perform during the season as well. Ingram and Kuzma have stiff competition as well.

PostPosted: Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:31 pm    Post subject: which Laker will likely take the biggest step next year

with all the changes, which player will like make the biggest improvement?
obviously, that will not likely be lbj or the new vet players.
so the obvious choices are bi, lonzo, kuz and hart, with the rooks unlikely to get that much time.

lets look at the upside for the young players.

hart - could shoot better and be more aggressive, but i dont see that big a step.

bi - likely to shoot with higher % due to the lbj threat. defense could get incrementally better. he could go from a 16ppg player to someone who gets more than 20ppg with 3p% over 40%. that would be a star but i would argue that this step would not be THAT big a step over 2017. in fact, with lbj as a threat, i would rather expect bi shooting to be better as he would be more open.

kuz - could shoot over 40% 3p% and get over 20ppg with lbj taking up more defense attention. his defense should get much better in the 2nd year. again, i do not view it as that big a step.

lonzo - i think lonzo is the one who could take an enormous step. it is possible that lonzo go from a 10ppg with 30% 3p% to near 20 ppg. the increase in ppg could come from an improvement in his horrible 45% ft% to a more respectable 70%-80%. i believe he shot 70% in college and that could be 4-5 ppg. coupled with better 3p% with the lbj threat, he could well see an 8-10ppg improvement. he was actually shooting 35%-40% for a while after returning from injury last season. fg% can also go up if he adds a tear drop. the likelihood for this jump is not small, as lonzo showed much better 3p% shooting after december. if he can improve his body and be more healthy, he could well become a triple double machine with his rebounding and passing abilities. scary thing is that his stats could go way up just with a 70% fg% (as in college) and adding a tear drop without a big jump in 3p%. his passing would get a big boost if his mid-range game improved.

mo - i dont expect his defense to improve quickly enough to get significant playing time.

svi - he is my darkhorse candidate if his shooting translates to the pro game from his senior year 45% stats suggest.

I think we're gonna find out what Kuz's true potential is. We know he can score and he seems to have a Kobe-like mentality. Only question is whether or not he has the overall skills to be an elite player in the league.

Either way I can't wait to watch it play out.

BI has a better chance to breakthrough next year, I’m basing that on the fact that Rondo will get minutes so it will be hard for Ball to make a significant jump.

i really like lonzo's chances because he already has the passing, rebounding and defense.

he needs better fg%, 3p% and health.

fg% just needs to revert to college 70%.
3p% was already improved over the beginning of last year, and 35% 3p% could already make his passing really play up, which was what he was shooting after december.
also a tear-drop/better mid-range game would offer an alternative path for making his passing play up.

to me, health is the biggest question from lonzo.
he improved his upper body.
lets hope the procedure did not prevent him from improving the lower body.

You beat me to this. As of this moment, I think Zubac will be the biggest surprise. I think Ball will be the biggest disappointment since I just don't think he will improve significantly on his shooting percentages (FG, 3PT and FT). I would be very happy if I am right about Zubac and wrong about Ball.

I hope so. He was not very good last season. If anything, he needs to show that he improved immensely from his rookie year, otherwise it might be a sign that he's reached his ceiling as a pro.

I have complete confidence that Zu will play a lot better, considering the multiple guards who can pass, and especially Rondo who I think will make our bigs look good with his dishes.

I agree and it'll be great to see that type of chemistry on the offensive end, but it's his defensive presence that will be the real key to his improvement.
