So many laughable takes on the Lakers. ESPN saying we miss the playoffs. Bleacher Report grading our offseason a C-. Danny Leroux grading our offseason the same (though Duncan gave us a B).

Being the underdog is great. You know LBJ is going to be motivated even more and the young guys hungry. Beasley came out and said that he’s not what people think he is. Same has been said about McGee and Rondo. Kind of like this posture. The media is priming us to fail and we will fail at failing and disprove them.

Ok, even if one buys into the idea that the other moves were absolutely idiotic, how can the offseason be a C- once we gotten Lebron Freaking James.

We lost a ton of games last year because our young guys couldn't close out games. I lost count of the number of times we were up early in the 4th only to collapse because we didn't have a guy who we could dump the ball to and take over the game.

We acquired the #1 person in the league at that particular skillset in the offseason. Bring on the West!

If anyone should feel slighted, it's the young core. Obviously the national take on them is that they are not as good as Laker fans tout them to be.

Calling this team an underdog in the last few years would have been a massive understatement though. Even the most pessimistic predictions for this team are more optimistic than any predictions we saw for the team in previous years.

Nah. We had no shot at the playoffs then.

Exactly. Before, we were the team that sucked and everyone knew we had no chance to do anything really. Now we’re the team that’s everyone unsure of, but if all the pieces check - veterans finding their roles and help the youngsters who in turn blossom and excel to the next level. All the while Lebron continues his dominance - Man, we could go a long way with this team. I remember 2 of the games the Lakers played against GSW this past season went to OT. Could have gone either way. If we just add LBJ to last’s years squad, the Lakers are winning those games. Now, GSW just added Boogie so it’s a moo point but the potential to be really good, great in fact, is right there for the Lakers.

Lakers ARE underdogs to every non-Laker fan and analyst for sure.

But this team, as currently constructed can beat EVERY other team in the league when everyone is "clicking"...

What still needs to be proven, is that they can beat these higher-regarded teams in a seven game series..

So my guess is that AFTER next season, the Lakers will be underdogs no more...!

How many WC teams are equipped to handle LBJ? Maybe 2 at most?

Your disdain for LBJ is clouding your objectivity. You really think this team wins 41 games. Lol.

So subbing LeBron for Randle gets you... only 6 extra wins (including all the young guys being 1 yr better)

I agree, great motivation. Maybe the kids have used being the underdog as motivation before, but not w Lebron banging the drum and leading the war-cry. This is probably really good for us

I actually don't like being the underdogs at any point in time.

The Lakers are not just known for winning, we are also known for dominating as a franchise. We want to tell our friends and co-workers that we didn't just win, but won convincingly and we'll do it again next year. That type of cockiness is what Laker fans are known for, because that the standard we hold ourselves to. This is why fans of other teams hate us and we revel in their jealousy.

I don't want to be an underdog, I especially don't want to be in the NBA Finals nine times while only being the favourite twice. I want to win and dominate so bad, starting from the defensive end.

Exactly. Let alone replacing ennis with rondo and our non existent SF depth.

As opposed to what? We just got the number one FA. what else did you expect? It’s a multi year plan.

It’s funny that people are saying this team isn’t better than Lebron’s CLE team. That’s when you know they are full of (bleep).

By the time that plans bears fruit, I'd prefer that we'd be the top dogs. None of this underdog crap. Being the underdog is just a cushion for excuses when you lose. Being the underdog is a reflection of your talent, meaning you are not good enough to be considered as someone who can take their team to victory. Being the top dogs also entails striking fear into the opposition. I remembered in 2000-2002, and 2008-2010, teams actually feared playing the Lakers. This fear starts when other teams know they can't just score on us.
