A home opener on a Saturday night?
Why does that seem odd to me?

It is kind of odd. Plus it will be going head to head with college football that night.

It's odd because the lakers have historically played almost all their home games on friday and sunday.
(and tues and wed)

Ya and the Clippers and Kings play a lot of home games on Saturdays.

78 more games...how many will be on national tv?

I would say about 30 more games. That would put them at 34 national tv games for the season.

Nurkic should have retired after that.

We've played well vs Warriors in recent years, SAS talking out of his ass as usual.

Because Saturday night is Clippers night, not Lakers night.

This team has the best chance to win against Portland more consistently then in years past, we have the wing defenders to D up there scorers.

Sixers at Celtics for Opening Day AND Christmas Day?!

Ugh, the east coast bias is gross. At least switch up the venues.

Exactly! Have one of those games in Philly at least.

They have to drum up interest because there is no other matchup in the east that anybody care about.

Get the season started off on the right note with a win up there.

Then come back home and beat Houston. That would be sweet.

LeBron James will make his return to Cleveland to play the Cavs for the first time as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 21, league sources tell ESPN.

@taniaganguli

Oct. 20 will be a busy day for Staples Center. The Kings host the Sabres and then they'll have LeBron's first home game as a Laker. Will be a tight turnaround for Lakers game ops

The NBA completely botches obvious choices for marquee games every year. It's pathetic. It's hard to believe that there was a committee of people who put their heads together and decided these matchups were the most intriguing and made the most sense. I'm surprised they didn't choose the Grizzlies vs the Hornets for a Christmas game. Seems like the kind of matchup they'd find interesting

I wonder if Lakers schedule some kind of appearance at LeBron's new school on this trip and combine it with a holiday community event.

Part of me feels it may be disrespectful to hometown cavs, but another part says LeBron over rides any of that and deserves the support on this day of his new team and theres a way to make that work without being insulting.

Would certainly take a bit of nuance and finesse though

The only National TV game for Cleveland, I'd imagine.

In regards to the East, and not having enough marquee matchups, mix it up then. Be bold:

Instead of Blazers/Jazz, make it Jazz/Sixers. Play up Simmons vs Mitchell, Gobert vs Embiid.

Put the Raptors on, deal with the TSN/Canadian viewership controversy. I'd wager more fans would love to see Drake & Kawhi than a Kristaps-less Knicks team.

*Adam Silver 1000 yard-stare

"Nah, let's just put the Sixers & Celtics on".

It would great to show that we can hang with the West right off the bat. However, we could easily go 0-2 and the alarmists will come full force.

Hopefully the team doesn’t eat to much during Thanksgiving
