We don't have a big man on the roster that I'd call a good rebounder. Unless we're calling LBJ a "big" now. |
We're not going to have a guy pull down 10+ boards every night, but I believe as a team we are going to rebound well. The 4 backcourt guys (Lonzo, Rondo, KCP, and Hart) are all top tier guards are far as rebounding goes at their position. LeBron obviously gets boards, Ingram's length allows him to. I'd like to see Kuzma more agressive on the glass though. As long as the bigs on the floor do a good job of boxing out, we will be fine rebounding the ball. |
We lost Larry Nance though due to that trade, and he was getting 6.8 rebounds a game in just 22 minutes a game.
Man could you imagine Nance on this team. He'd be a great fit.
Although we also added Mcgee, who may be able to rebound at the same rate (although I wonder if he will play 22 minutes a game due to his asthma). |

I think we'll be scrappy and play good team D, like last year, but I don't see us as the best defensive team. Maybe top 10. |

You are sadly mistaken if you think Lance Stephenson is a lock down defender. Lance will get up in your face and not back down but he is far from anything above an average overall defender at best. |

Are you aware of just how well our guards rebound the ball? Did I mention it is not the center's sole responsibility to rebound the ball? _________________ "Less is more." |

Rim protection is my biggest concern when it comes to locking opponents down. How do we keep someone like Gobert from scoring at will? McGee is likely to be very limited in his minutes, so Zubac is going to have to be ready for some heavy lifting as well when we need rim protection this season.
Other than that I think we're in good shape. Oddly enough, it's the seasoned vets that are more of a question mark than our young guys, who are solid on defense. |

Our guards get rebounds because they are tall guards that can win the rebound battle against other guards and some small forwards.
They aren't going to win against 7 foot centers. _________________ Kobe |

The real unknown with our Lakers (defensively) is the coaching staff's ability to deliver this overhauled roster and disharmonious looking list of characters to a mindset of harmonious defensive strategy, perhaps before mid-season. Can they do it ? Maybe.
However, the league's direction for many years in terms of its rule changes and officiating has been one granting increasingly greater freedoms to the offensive team and taking away privilege from the defensive players. Individual ball handlers have never had it so easy as today. That suggests to me that no team can become successful mainly as a defensive team. The game's setup today just prohibits a lock down of an opposing scoring power to any great extent.
We'll just have to wait and watch to see. | everything you said about the rule changes are true. but its more toward the individual defender never being able to lock down anyone anymore. which is why when people talk about all of these crazy stats i laugh. no one can guard anyone 1 v 1 anymore so it is what it is. BUT as a TEAM you can be very good on the defensive end and slow teams down. Our team is a team that SHOULD in theory cause a lot of turnovers and be able to capitalize on said TO's. that doesnt mean locked down defense. it means if we need a stop when can not only make a team miss but we can MAKE a team make a mistake so we can get the ball back. there's a difference. |

Everyone pretty much hurts after the moves and young guys in the past few years. DLO, Nance, JC, Jules...we all were fans of these guys to varying degrees. Sad but happens. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I'm more scared of Giannis...but the strategy will be the same. Run them bigs down, run run run, then run some more

Want to re-iterate what I initially said.
Not a team beats us in length + athleticism, ANTICIPATION.
That's a true statement I believe. That to me is a recipe to disrupt more 3's than any other team. |
