Have you seen the video of his new song, "No Erasin'"?

Pretty cool that someone at the height of his career could just stop. Mades tens of millions of dollars and just stopped.

24 years since his last solo album
22 years since his last Journey album

That's a long ass time.....

Sounds like he is made it out the other side and has passion for music again. Good for him. The responses on social have been huge and his return has been trending. Good for him. Seems like a nice guy.

I like what he said on his website on the reason for being gone...

Years ago, I disappeared.
There were many reasons, but mainly…
My Love for Music had suddenly left me.
I knew that simply stopping, was what I had to do.
If music was ever to return to my heart,
then and only then I would figure out what to do.
If not… so be it,
for I had already lived the dream of dreams.
Many years passed.
One day, I began sketching some musical ideas
with the creative freedom that I was the
only one who would ever hear them.
One song led to many.
My Love for Music had returned.
Then another beautiful thing happened.
I found Love.
My precious Kellie gave me a life
I never knew I had.
I lost her December of 2012.
I now deeply understand the meaning of:
“’It’s better to have Loved and Lost,
Than to have never Loved at All.”
May of 2015,
I began recording.
These songs are special to me.
I respectfully ask that you please listen to them,
And whatever they make you feel,
I thank you for listening.
Sincerely,
Steve Perry

I love Perry's voice, and always will....so much, I really wanted to dislike Arnel Pineda......but that dude sold me.....there really was another guy out there that could do it as well as Steve Perry.

He still has about 85-90% of his voice, which is pretty impressive. The video made me think of Tom Jones when he had a comeback around the same age.

Steve Perry was definitely one of the best male vocalists of his era. I'll have to check out his new song right now and see if AH is right about still having 85-90% of his voice. Perry is 69. I remember seeing Hall & Oates at the Hollywood Bowl when he was 65, and Daryl Hall was still quite good, probably around 80% if I had to estimate. I'll post my thoughts again after checking out Perry's song.

Oh, and adkindo is right, as Arnel Pineda is legitimately good. Really, really good.

EDIT: OK, just checked out the song. I wouldn't say he's 85-90% of his previous voice. He doesn't have the same power or range, but that's totally to be expected at 69. He absolutely still sounds good, and that passion that he was known for still comes through. Glad to see him making music again.

Incorrect. Steve Perry is amazing and might have one of my favorite voices ever - "lights" hits me deep -- but Queen, and particularly Freddie, are iconic. If you want to discuss further, meet at the Walgreens on Vine and I'll tell you it to your face!

Steve is the definition of class. The man thanked Arnel Pineda (current Journey singer) during his RRHoF induction speech. Rarely do I see that kind of humility from big rock stars, and when I do, I tip my cap.

As lovely as it is to see him back, this was a bit underwhelming in terms of songwriting and track editing. Something’s just a bit off, can’t really place what it is though. The vocals have aged naturally and he's working with his voice and not against it, and that’s nice to hear. All in all, could have picked a better comeback track but you can’t have it all. Still great to see him.

I was struck by the fact that he was using a microphone with a cord and seemed close to tripping on it. That was weird for a video.

Yep and Arnel has repeatedly said he'd walk away if Steve ever wanted to come back. Arnel's story is seriously storybook ish.

Perry says that he wrote "Lights" about LA, and not San Francisco, and that, since Journey was a Bay area band, he just changed some of the lyrics to "sun shines on the bay" and "my city by the bay."

Yeah, if I were a Dodgers fan that would make me jealous AF. Lucky them.

It is a great story, Foreigner’s Jukebox Hero reminds me of Arnel’s career.

He has the video of "No More Cryin'" on YouTube now, too. This one has more of a blues-y feel to it.

Both Steve and Arnel are class guys. I watched a Journey documentary where Neil Schon was saying that would Arnel stops singing, they will hang it up as a band.

His new album is out today, Traces. Its amazing. Might be a little slow for some people but its sung with so much emotion that I would think there are only a handful of singers in the world that can sing like this. And the dude is going to be 70 years old in 3 months.

Wow....

Get it...buy it....support his comeback.

A lot of the songs are about loss, which if anyone has lost a loved one, parent, sibling, wife, husband, etc., it will really strike a nerve.

Amazing piece of work....
