For me it would have to be 2009 when we were set to get revenge on the Celts with Pau in for a full season and I just knew we were gonna make another run for the title.

Now, we may not exactly be in immediate title contention but the excitement is still there because the possibilities that anything can happen look very good for us.

Knew Nash wouldn’t work out so I’ll go with 2010-2011 season. Thought with Barnes Blake additions there was a chance for a second 3peat. Boy was I wrong

99'. Adding Phil Jackson = Championship expectation.
18'. Adding Lebron James = Championship expectation.

Yeah I forgot about Pau! That was the last time for sure. So 96,99,08,18 for me.

How are you guys comparing this off season with 2012?

We got one of the best players ever

We got rid of Deng and are in position to add another max player in 2019.

We got solid experienced players

This is the most exciting off season for us since 96.

2008 when we just lost the championship to the Celtics. I now felt like a part of that rivalry and was stoked about the opportunity to get revenge on them.

I thought the West was ours when we got Dwight and Nash, especially with Harden being shipped off to HOU in that same offseason.

Until Kobe said "this is my team" on media day.

It didn't really bother me at the time when he said that. And even when I look back on it now, it still doesn't. It was true. I mean, why would it be anyone else's team? It certainly wasn't going to be Pau's team. Wasn't gonna be Nash's either. Dwight was the most dominant big man in the game at the time, but Kobe was still arguably the best player in the league (though that would end up being the final year he was able to play at that level) and had won his 5 championships and had been there his entire career. It was a really stupid question to even ask whose team it was. Of course it was Kobe's team.

Kobe just had a really brash personality, so I can see why his answer might've ruffled some feathers; but then again, what did Howard and Nash think they were signing up for? Kobe was brutally honest about who he was. He didn't hide it no matter who he was around. Even when he spoke to the media. But that same brashness and competitiveness was what made him who he was. In a sense, he reinforced his own position as the leader of the team by answering the question with that degree of honest. He was setting the tone for how he was going to lead them (which was the same way he always lead), and that was with trademark, brutal honesty. That's just how alphas are and is exactly what makes them alphas.

Sorry for saying so much, but I've wanted to explain this for years This actually made me look up the footage of it and is making me a little sad. Man, I really miss that guy No matter what state the Lakers were in, you always had this sense of comfort and optimism just because of his presence. Fortunately, LeBron is here now, so that sense of security is back

Of course it was the truth.
And of course that's how Kobe would have answered.
I was pissed that the media asked the question.
Especially when Nash and D12 didn't say it was Kobe's team out right.
With a coach like mda, who was ahead of his time, we needed everyone to buy in.
After media day, I knew things were gonna be rocky.

And then the Nash injury
Pau not buying in. D12 not buying in. Kobe being Kobe.
They just made it harder on themselves.

Then the Kobe injury.
Sad.

I've followed the Lakers for more years than anyone probably wants to know, and I've been excited many times about an upcoming season for various reasons.

I have never been so genuinely excited for the number of different legitimate reasons that I am this season.

Malone/Payton
going back further, Shaq

although, after 5 years of mismanagement and mediocrity, this year projects to be the biggest turnaround differential - so the effect is going to be significantly magnified

I guess 2012 if excited because of what may happen in May/June is the measurement....but honestly, I was hella excited going into the last couple seasons with the youth movement. Remember DLo's rookie season when we started out like 10-10....I was really excited about our direction at the time.....then last year after the SL success, I was pretty excited to see what our kids could do.
