Or perhaps you could just explain it now? What do you have to lose?

ESPN 710 yesterday bought up J.R. Smith as a option, although I don’t think LeBron would want him.

I don't think he'd be an option due to the surplus of guards/wings they already have, but otherwise, I have little doubt that LeBron would be happy if he made his way here.

If by some reason they signed him it will be because they need another reliable 3pt option and even though he can really brick it, he can really get hot from the 3pt line which perhaps can come in handy if we need to make a comeback in a game, but I can see why the Lakers will pass on him.

Not with that boneheaded play in the playoffs. Dude is burned out and cooked.

Really? Team PPG wasn't an issue last year, and the Lakers are considerably more stacked with talent from 5-1 compared to last season.

Who scores with efficiency out of PnR besides Lebron in a playoff game?

He might still be good enough to be a starter in limited minutes, he can be a perfect back up big, would probably mean we would need to waive or trade Zu to make room.

I thought the entire thread was about the lakers having only 1 available roster spot?

Bynum would be perfect by the way.

Bigs

Bynum
McGee
Zubac
Wagner

Forwards

Lebron
Ingram
Kuzma
Beasley
Bonga
Wear

Guards

Rondo
Lonzo
KCP
Hart
Svi
Lance
Caruso

We do have 1 roster spot open but there will be to many bigs vying for playing time.

If Bynum can still play, and that's a huge "IF", it could work. As third string center perhaps. Drew was actually becoming a very good player before his knees went out on him. If he's healed and rehabbed to the point where he can now withstand 10 to 15 minute stints without swelling and pain, he'd be a very solid and presumably very inexpensive player to put beside McGee, who is also limited in how many minutes he can play.

We are deep at every position except 5, and we are nowhere close to deep at the 5 position right now. Not unless Zu and Wagner show real well this season, or LeBron suddenly falls in love with playing center.

I don't blame the Lakers for taking a look. I'm not holding my breath on seeing Andrew Bynum back in a Laker uniform either. Nice comeback story if it did happen.

They're not waiving Zubac just to sign Bynum. That's an awful idea.

After watching him play in the big 3 I would sign Corey Maggette

I would leave the spot open until a need comes up.
The roster seems well balanced and about 2 deep at each position.
If injuries occur, then we may need to fill the spot then.

+1.

That said, I imagine Bynum will be on a non guaranteed deal wherever he goes. So wouldn’t likely be difficult to adjust if needed.

I don't know why we're to concerned with the final spot since there's barely enough PT for the guys we already have.

What's behind this assumption we need to dump Zubac to make room? This thread is about the 15th spot, which is open.

Again, I don't expect to see Bynum on our roster this season, but that's based on my guess his knees are too shot to play defense, not on the premise there isn't room for one more minimum contract insurance big.

How bout 18-19 Zub?

Watching Bynum's film and it looked like it was going half speed.

This has to be the single worst idea I've read on this forum this year. Congrats!

Why would they give up on Bonga already?

Young man is a promising and intriguing project. Will not be 19 years old until November. At this point barely a freshman in college. He was not overly impressive in Summer League but I'm willing to let him get the training and G-league experience he needs for a year or two before writing him off.

Could easily see him lingering for a year or even two and feeling like an additional 1st round pick in 2019 or 20 draft. Guessing the team shows more patience.
