I wouldn't put him in the upper echelon of PBP announcers, but he's been a good and distinguished one (albeit sometimes cheesy).
Congrats to him for not only doing it for this long, but with a second rate franchise like the Clippers and all the years of losing he had to endure. |

He probably announced more losing games (with his home team) than any other announcer... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

Lawler is the only thing left of the Clippers that is worth any value. Once he's gone, it will become just another crappy generic NBA team with lots of history of losing. I can see why he is retiring because of his age, but also because the Clippers are going thru another cycle of rebuilding. |

I wonder if Donald Sterling will show up for his final broadcast. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Sad. One of the highlights of Clippers basketball. Congrats to him for surviving multiple mgmt regime changes, and most importantly remaining a fan after so many years.
would be really nice to see the big redhead commentate a few games alongside Ralph this year. |

So they'll become the Clippers? _________________ "All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers."

Hard to believe nowadays, but there was a time when there wasn't a lot of basketball on TV. Very few nationally televised games, so when there was no Laker game on, a basketball junkie like me could start experiencing withdrawal symptoms. In those dark times, often my only option was to listen to the Clipper broadcast on the radio (most of their games weren't televised). So I spent more than a few nights listening to Ralph, usually with no partner, calling the games of these dreadful Clipper teams with enthusiasm and interest even as they usually were hopelessly behind by the 4th quarter. The man really loved his job. And in later years, when he and Bill Walton teamed up, it was comedy gold. I'm going to miss Ralph. |

I've always liked Ralph. He's not a huge homer, isn't annoying, has a nice voice, and does his job well, relatively speaking. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |
