If you were starting a franchise today and could sign any player in the NBA, who would it be?

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee – 30%

2. Anthony Davis, New Orleans – 23%

3. Kevin Durant, Golden State – 20%

4. LeBron James, L.A. Lakers – 17%

5. Stephen Curry, Golden State – 7%

6. Joel Embiid, Philadelphia – 3%

Last year: Karl-Anthony Towns – 29%

Giannis gets the vote because he is younger, if LeBron was the same age he would be the undisputed #1 guy to start a franchise with.

Yea the only reason Giannis Antetokounmpo is #1 has to be age. Cuz he's not better than 4 of those guys, imo.

Surprised.. Curry didn’t get a lot of votes, I would honestly take him over Giannis if I wanted a guy to lead my franchise, especially with his great success so far.

Lots of love for sure, but survey loses a little credibility with best center in the league. It’s definitely Mason Plumlee.

What’s more interesting to me than Giannis being #1 choice to start a franchise

Is how KAT completely fell off the list.

I agree it’s kinda crazy that a guy who puts up 25/10 every game basically isn’t even on the list, do these GMs see something we don’t?

I think it’s mainly due to the fact that Embiid was injury proned

Now that Embiid showed he can play majority of a season, he’s clearly above Towns

I love the Greak Freak but, why do people think that he is better than Anthony Davis? I think AD is better by a sizable margin.

Soft on defense. Dogs it sometimes running up the court. Refuses to put his differences with Butler aside and basically taking his team and his city out of the running for a championship. His numbers a great, but so were Dwight Howard’s, right?

You can’t go wrong either way if it’s a choice between Towns and Embiid, if Towns becomes a good defensive player, not sure if choosing Embiid over him becomes easy.

Giannis has been more durable, other than that Davis’ numbers are better across the board...

Giannis is a year younger, and pretty much the same size as Davis with better ball handling. GM’s are probably taking him banking on his ability to develop a good 3pt shot.

Is Giannis better on D? That might be a reason why GMs prefer him over AD.

What rule (regarding play, Draft/Lottery, playoff format, etc.) most needs to change?

1. Playoff seeding (1-16) – 18%

The last question to GM’s brought tears to my eyes. We need a 1-16 playoff seeding, regardless of coast or conference. Especially now that Lebron is in the West, we want him in the playoffs as much as possible. Also, enough of the better Eastern conference teams with their cakewalking through the first couple of rounds.

Yeah, it is time to change that.

Yep, I noticed that. I never thought that our young core was rated as highly around the league as some people on this board claim that it is. After a long off-season of puffing, it's good to let some more air out of the hype balloon.

I agree.....Giannis is unique and can cause all kinds of matchup problems, but he is not as talented as AD.

Durant ranking 5th in defensive player is a joke. I know he got a lot of hype early in the year last year, but he regressed to being a poor defender throughout the season.

That would result in way too much travel trying to balance the number of games between East and West opponents.

I didn't think this was a big deal last year. If anything the top eastern teams had a harder time in the earlier rounds than the western teams did.

If you did a 1-16 seeding, the Nuggets would have made the playoffs instead of the Wizards -- no big deal to anyone except the team's fans. I don't know that the playoffs would have been any better overall.

In fact, that may have been a reason that this rule change actually lost a lot of support compared to last year.
