Also I never said that Auburn would kill UCF. The outcome of the game isn’t that surprising to me because it was a much more important game to UCF. Auburn doesn’t impress anyone if they beat UCF. And Auburn had already finished playing in much more important games (for them).

that is the narrative that those that doubt UCF have adopted....and there could be truth in it. At the same time, if Auburn buries UCF in that game, the UCF supporters would be claiming that it was because UCF was so disappointed they did not have a chance to compete in the Playoff. I would definitely think that if I was Auburn, I would not want to be embarrassed by a Group of 6 school on New Years day....and likewise if I was UCF I would want to show everyone by beating a traditional powerhouse program in a New Years Day Bowl. I do recall Auburn's coaches and players claiming UCF was probably the toughest offense they had tried to defend that season.....but again, those could just be words of sportsmanship. Again, if they win their games this year, the rest will take care of itself.

If you are looking for a good meaningful game.....the menu is slim this week...

#19 Texas @ #7 Oklahoma - 12:00 PM ET (@ Cotton Bowl - Dallas, TX) - On paper, may not look like Texas is on the same level as Oklahoma....but this is the Red River Rivalry. In recent years, Texas has not been a real Big 12 contender, but they always sneak up and steal games. The reason is most of the elite Big 12 teams in recent years are built to play other Big 12 teams.....wide open, no huddle, Air Raid spread type offenses. Texas has never adopted that style, and if they can force a Big 12 team to play their style, they gain an advantage. This game is always close....over the last 5 years, Oklahoma has been an elite CFB program, while Texas has often not even been ranked. Recent history suggests Oklahoma will have it's hands full.
Quote:
2013 - Texas 36 Oklahoma 20 - Texas Season Record - 8-5
2014 - Texas 26 Oklahoma 31 - Texas Season Record - 6-7
2015 - Texas 24 Oklahoma 17 - Texas Season Record - 5-7
2016 - Texas 40 Oklahoma 45 - Texas Season Record - 5-7
2017 - Texas 24 Oklahoma 29 - Texas Season Record - 7-6

#5 LSU @ #22 Florida - 3:30 PM ET
#13 Kentucky @ Texas A&M - 7:00 PM ET
#6 Notre Same @ #24 Virginia Tech - 8:00 PM ET

Some other interesting games...

Florida State @ #17 Miami - 3:30 PM ET - Can FSU get up for an old rival?
San Diego State @ Boise State - 3:30 PM ET - Two of the better Group of 6 programs trying to break into rankings.
#8 Auburn @ Mississippi State - 7:30 PM ET - Has trap game written all over it.
Utah @ #14 Stanford - 10:30 PM ET - I think Utah is better than they have played.

UCLA hanging in there with Colorado. Came in as 10 point underdogs but only down 21-16 midway through the 3rd.

Earlier, Memphis arrived at Tulane as 14.5 point favorites....left with a 40-24 loss.

They lost again so now they are 0-4....although that was expected since Colorado is one of the better Pac-12 South teams this year.
I think we saw how bad UCLA was when they got blown out at home by Fresno State. When you consider how much better funded a UC athletic program is compared to a Cal State athletic program, this is obviously a rebuilding year for them.

yeah, it is probably not about winning at this point for the coaching staff....but trying to prevent your team from quitting. I have been on some teams that expected to lose before we walked on the field...you could just feel it in the locker room, and once a team gets there, its hard to overcome. Tonight it felt like they out believing....then a few things went south, and they kind of just lost a little faith. If they could steal a game or two, it would probably change the way they play the rest of the season...but there are no obvious wins on their schedule.

That's where Nebraska fan is right now. Frost has hinted as much as well. A month ago, this fan base was so excited for the season to start and pumped that things were turning up red. Now there is legitimate fear of going 1-11 with the one being Bethune Cookman. The feeling is easy to detect in the stadium. It's easy to see from the team, one thing goes wrong and more and more are putting their heads down in frustration and feeling dejected. This is a brutal season.

just have to put on your "program development shades".....we did it as Laker fans in recent years, where you begin to find ways to get excited over things other than wins. Noticing your underclassmen developing and improving....following the recruiting cycles, etc. 2020 is not that far away. 1-11 is tough...especially for a traditional powerhouse program....but it will just make it much more enjoyable when things get turned around. When Frost gets it turned around.....putting beatings on those teams that have added to your suffering in these early years will feel so great.

is it just me or are more college football refs showing up with big arms, and wearing shirts a size too small? There is a common Big12 ref that is an older dude that has put on a gun show with each call for a couple years.....but watching this WVU-Kansas game, there is a younger guy that is clearly getting some additional testosterone into his body.

just a reminder, if you have never seen Virginia Tech walk out before a big night game in Blacksburg....check it out tonight @ 8PM ET on ABC against Notre Dame if you have a few minutes. The TV broadcast usually shows the Va. Tech walkout because it so good. Va. Tech was one of WVU's main rivalries for decades....so not much of a fan, but have to give credit where it is due, and I think their nighttime walkout is the best in the nation.

ESPN did a good story on the 1988 FSU football team that came into the season ranked #1 and released a rap video called the Seminole Rap. The team with Deion Sanders then went on to get beat 31-0 in the first game by Miami....but did bounce back to finish 11-1.

Seminole Rap

If you are old enough, you recall making a rap video became somewhat popular for a couple years after the iconic '85 Bears released The Super Bowl Shuffle. One such release that has never got its just due was the 1988 WVU Football team's, led by Major Harris on the field and in vocals, Mountaineer Rap. It was released right before WVU played Notre Dame in the National Championship game in the Fiesta Bowl. WVU went on to lose that game.....but I still say we win that game if Heisman finalist Major Harris did not separate his shoulder on the 3rd play of the game! Still, by far the best team rap imo....

Mountaineer Rap

Something is way off today with the WVU offense. They lead at the half 21-7 over Kansas.....BUT Will Grier has been picked off 3 times in the end zone!!! WVU came into the game leading the nation in Red Zone scoring (100%) and Red Zone TD's (89%). We have been automatic in the red zone until today.

So far, and likely will end up being the worst game of Grier's career. At the half he is 20-29 for 247 Yards, 2 TD's & 3 Interceptions

down by only 7 in the 4th to the #10 team in the country?

I did see a tweet by an ESPN guy earlier that said the stadium was not even half full....and that is just not good. You have a new coach, and the #10 team in the nation at your house.....fans need to show up.

#13 Kentucky and Texas A&M going to OT tied @ 14

Update: A&M wins in OT 20-14. Not sure a lot of people even expected Kentucky to be able to get to OT with Texas A&M in College Station.
