His defense needs a lot of work for him to get consistent minutes. That and he probably needs to make his shots. He looked stiff out there tonight in his first official game as a laker. Hopefully the jitters have passed. |

Looked a bit intimidated and like he needed to settle into a game speed. |

Yep, he was scared a little bit. Need more games and experience to start playing his real basketball level. |

Yup...that's why I don't think he'll be playing much this year. Defense was pretty bad and just didn't seem comfortable. |

Yep. Expected the team to be out of sorts for the first game. Too many new guys. |

It was a nice game by Svi despite his obvious nerves being in his first NBA game. He was active and didn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a number of shots. He knows why he is out there. He shot the ball 8 times with 5 of those being from three-point range.
Svi is my Kuzma from last year and Zubac from the year before. He's the end of the bench guy I'm pulling for in 2019! _________________ Don't make me give you a trout slap! |

Yeah for a rookie in his first preseason game he didn't look all that bad out there. Par for the course. This is the time when rookies start learning real fast, usually the hard way. I don't think he'll always be mistake prone on defense.
He was only 1 for 5 from 3 point range, which I attribute to big-time jitters. That's his number one job, sink threes. We'll see if he settles in as preseason progresses. |

I was impressed by Svi, even though the shot wasn't falling he was still playing his game, and showed he can get his shot off in a number of ways.
If he can just go close to shooting like how he did in summer league he'll be a productive player this year and steal of the draft. |

Or Josh Hart 2.0. Let Svi get some burn in G-League to start the season to gain confidence. _________________ Under New Management |

If Ingram or Lonzo could shoot like Svi they would be superstars.
Need to keep Svi around to show how shooting is done.
His defense needs work and he needs to adjust to the speed and size of the NBA. But he has the tools.
Jessie found another diamond in the rough at the end of the draft. Don't know how he does it after the prev FO had money and position and could not do it. |

Yeah, not the year for him. If he was drafted last season he would have had plenty of chances to play and could have played through his rookie jitters. He's not going to have that chance this season unless he shows something quick. He's had one or two good plays, but mostly he's been invisible in his brief minutes. |

he's going to get his chances every few games, because Stephenson sucks.... and it's not a quiet kind of suck, it's stalling an offense + bricking shots. Svi will get his chance to be a bit better than detrimental - or maybe a lot better. |

The good news is that the lesser-Svi, Kevin Huerter, is struggling in preseason, too. _________________ Under New Management |

He needs to spend a lot of time in South Bay. He's not ready. |

Shooters transitioning the NBA need to get acclimated with the speed and length of the defenders. There is less airspace to get your shot off and that usually forces them to cut out any wasted motion when setting up for a shot.
Svi has been taking contested shots. Get him some open looks in rhythm, he will start to bury them. |

Looks like he's having problems getting open shots. When he shoots he usually under duress and hurries his shot. Maybe the coaching staff can work on a few plays for him. |

Lance is shooting considerably better from the field and the same from 3 so far. Let’s not let hatred for the player skew our ability to judge him, if he’s bricking shots than you have to admit Svi is bricking more, a lot more when you consider how many more 3s he’s taken. He won’t be playing PG in the regular season and won’t be stalling the offense like he is now. He’s also a much better defender than Svi at least right now.
Svi will get time sparingly throughout the year but Lance should and will play a lot more this year. |

Absolutely....Lance will play much more than Svi...He does more things, playmaking, running the break etc. Svi is one dimensional at this point and will play sparingly...most of his run will be in the G-league. |

Wingspan does matter. | but thats not really the issue with a guy like svi. they put him in with the least likely lineup that will help him standout as a shooter. and expect him to find his shot. aint happening this early in his career. not vs real nba talent. now give him some serious burn and do that for half a season, he will figure it out. but that aint going to happen we have too many guys at his spot. So that means he's getting spot mins. if you give me spot mins, i need to be setup nicely for the time I'm out there. so i have the best chance to make my wide open shots. and wingspan doesnt matter. getting separation and knowing how much arc is necessary is the key. ask all the little pg's in the nba that still shoot over these giants with long arms.
is IT's arms longer than SVi's? no. could be close to the same since SVI has short arms by nba standards. but yet MVP IT found a way to get his shot off. |
