Considering that JaVale hasn't played "big minutes" (a lot of minutes or critical period minutes) since mid-season 2012, it doesn't seem likely that the Lakers will be counting on him for much more than part-time work. I figure that we may see him log on average 12-14 MPG at best, and within that, his time coming at the start of each half.
So the talk of Luke saying he can play big minutes doesn’t mean much? even if he can play 20-25MPG, we still need another option at the C spot.

Agree. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team !
Lance isn't a problem because we have four or five others who can replace him... however, unless Moe is a ready made stud... we may have an issue at center. The only reason some complain about him, is because we could have used his money to buy a center.

Cole Aldrich.
Have seen you suggesting Aldrich for a couple days now, curious as to why.
Have you heard seen something to think the Lakers have interest or simply best available from list of free agent centers posted?
Aldrich may be a somewhat reliable vet but uninspiring IMO. He seems more suited to an overseas contract then an NBA role. Sadly, very indicative f the Lakers current C situation that he is even considered an upgrade.
Too bad Wagner has been injured. Would have liked to see him make an attempt at mpg. Not a perfect solution but an intriguing one. Anyone seen any updates on Wagner's health? Any hope he returns for the opener or early part of the season? Maybe his youthful enthusiasm can overcome his inexperience and limitations.
I'm open to any suggestion for improvement at center. It's a weakness that needs to be addressed sooner then later IMO.
We just need a guy that's physical, grabs boards, and preferably swats. That's someone like Pachulia.
Except it was just 2 years ago where Aldrich had a 2-3 year stint of a 25%-30% defensive rebounding rate (critical for transition play), floated near 20% total rebounding (so that's like averaging 14rpg in 36), and fairly absurd steal rates and block rates (basically like 1.2stlpg + 2.5bpg) in 36 minutes.
I can't find health/injury issues. He doesn't have great hands so he's a bit turnover prone. His shot at the FT line is Jamaal Wilkes level, but he capable of around 70%.
For 10 minutes a game? This looks pretty easy, unless someone else gets waived, which is what I'm waiting on with other teams making roster cuts. Either this, or I'm waiting for Derrickson from GSW to get waived, but even he's an undersized 4/5 and a rookie, but he boxes out and bombs 3s. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
There was a lot of energy in the first minutes of last night's game and perhaps it was the excitement, but McGee looked gassed rather quickly. There were two times I noticed it:
The beginning minutes and somewhere when warriors we're teasing him from the bench.
Chris Bosh still wants to party. I think we're desperate enough that we should take a risk on him. If something happened, it wasn't my idea. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024

He’s been gushing all over the Lakers team on the Open Court on NBA TV, there is no way he is gonna go play for the Knicks.. especially when they are in complete rebuild mode... guys who are coming back from major issues usually wanna ease back and doing it with a contender is much more easier then with a rebuilt team.

Yeah, I think it's our coach whistling in the dark about the club's plan to some extent. I think it's a neglectful approach to the season by our coach and front office if it's a serious proposition to send JaVale to play 20 for a whole season. Been a long time since he's done anything close to that (six seaosns back) and there's reasons. He's just not capable of doing it, IMO.

They've played him 20 minutes a game in the preseason, so it's hard to see why they would play him less in the real games. We'll see how it works out.
I think we will sign him for sure, looks like the kind of big who can potentially help us in spurts in a BIG way, I don’t want to judge Noah’s time with the Knicks cause they have been a mess for such a long time that it’s possible players find it hard to play with motivation with the Knicks.. plus it would be cool to see LeBron play with Noah another guy he had to battle in the EC in recent years in the playoffs.
It might be between us and Golden State. GS right now look like they have worse centers than us. Noah might not be interested due to Cousins coming back.
