Glad to hear the props. On the other hand . . . you'd think, by reading some of the posts during this game, that Kershaw was the reincarnation of Brandon McCarthy.

Kershaw has pretty interesting postseason numbers. The failures are obvious, but we also know he's been left out to dry a couple times and that the bully has let in a lot of his runners (remember: he actually left Game 5 with a 7-4 lead, 2-on and 2-out - it was Maeda that let up the long ball to tie it up entirely). All that said, and you get the following rib-bits:

Today was Kershaw's 8th postseason start with 1 run or fewer or 3 hits or fewer. No one else has more than 5.

Postseason starts with a game score of 70 or higher?

8 Justin Verlander (35% of starts)
8 Tom Glavine (23%)
7 Madison Bumgarner (50%)
7 Orel Hershiser (39%)
7 Curt Schilling (37%)
7 Whitey Ford (32%)
7 Clayton Kershaw (32%)

Another way of looking at it:

6+ innings, 0-2 earned. Kershaw has 10 such games.
Touched up in the 7th -- 5 games.
Can't make it to the 5th --- 6 games.

Not what you want from the GOAT pitcher, but when he is on, he is still very much on.

That was a BRUTALLY bad call.

That was the correct call. Betts had that ball, but a fans hand closed his glove. It's as if they touched the ball itself.

To me, a fan should be allowed to touch a ball if it is over the wall. My space, your space, be a good boy Betts lol!

A GOAT pitcher should be able to win twice in the World Series

He's superb when he's on. When he's not, it kills you. I suppose that fits our team this year, as the hitters have been all-or-nothing, for the most part.

I thought he was headed for another blowup start in that 3rd inning, after walking Woodruff and after it was already a run in and Yelich up with 2nd and 3rd. Getting out of that is exactly what he hasn't been able to do in the postseason far too often.

Buck Foston indeed. If the stars align, might be fitting to see a team coached by a former Red Sox player vs a team coached by a former Dodger.

I'm sure the dodgers wanted revenge against the Cardinals...and then the Cards beat them. Sometimes you just dont match up well with a team, sometimes you have emotional baggage.

Revenge is overrated anyway...Just win the thing any way you can.

Me too. I hate all the small market teams or teams without any history and winning traditions, aka last years Astros and this years Brewers. Hate their bandwagon fans who were nowhere to be found a few years ago. Just let the big boys play.

I was watching the post game interview with Kershaw and he struggled to explain why he was so solid in this game vs the last one. It got me thinking about what makes the difference between a good Kershaw game and a bad one. Before his first game, Joe Buck mentioned that he has a poor track record with the umpire that was behind the plate that night. Could it be that he struggles to overcome certain types of umps? I’m sure someone in the Dodger .org looks at this, but man, if there is data showing a pitcher struggles with a certain ump, I think you need to switch him out for another pitcher...don’t you?

Looks like Astros are done for considering its going back to Boston for the next 2 games. Their closer that they signed for this season was a disaster yesterday.

Joe Buck should take some notes from this play by play man on TBS and the excitement he showed on the game ending catch.

Thanks Vishnu, good call. While I remember Cora from his Dodgers days, didn’t realize he was traded to Red Sox in 2005 (via CLE) and stayed there for a couple more years. Turns out Roberts was only in Boston for a brief time after the Stanley trade, his historic steal in the 12th during the 2004 playoffs made it seem like he was there for a while.

Edit: managed, not coached

One of the huge issues against the Cardinals is Kershaw really struggled with them. Since 2013 Kershaw is 0-4 in the playoffs against that team and 9-3 against everyone else.

If it wasn’t for the horrific game 5 in the World Series I would defend him more. I saw commentary calling game 5 of this series the biggest of his career. I STRONGLY disagree. It was game 5 of the World Series. If he wins that he probably has a ring already. Game 5 of this series gets him closer to a ring, but I still don’t even know who will win this series yet.

Houston and Boston are both loaded so I don’t see one team clearly being an easier matchup than the other.
