Zubac just saved his career. Can't have him against Aldridges and Jokics of the world but I hope he can be serviceable. Was Williams active for tonight? If so, gutsy call by Luke. Props to him

As I have been saying just let him play and show whether he is an NBA player or not.

Is it a coincidence he played after Magic's talk with Luke? Sure would like to know who made this call.

Kidding aside Zubac’s defense wasn’t that good against the penetration, but he finished around the rim. Thanks especially to Rondo.

I'm glad he played well but why did he get to play tonight all of a sudden? Are they trying to see if they should cut him or Williams?

Maybe Luke thought we needed his size against Portland's bigs which was the right move or maybe Magic had an influence during the meeting.

Is it just me, or does he set great screens, like way better than anybody else on the team in each of his 3 years to the point where it stands out? Rondo was killing Portland coming off those screens from Zu.

Luke F'd up that entire situation. As much as he could have, he should have match McGee against LMA, and Zu against Pau.
instead we saw McGee against Pau a lot and Zu against LMA

Zu would have been able to hold his own against Pau - but LMA was too fast & too skilled for him

Zu would do well against 80-90% of the backup C's in the league (and a few of the starters) - but, you've got to manage minutes to make those matchups happen

He's too slow footed to recover when he's beat, so it's either a foul or a layup for the other team. Also when he's running up and down the court, he runs like a heavyweight, lugging up and down. I thought he lost weight ? He looks slower than before if anything.

He's not slower, the team just plays faster than last season. That said, I hope he enjoyed his time and stays ready. However, there is no doubt that Tyson Chandler will eat up most of the back-up center minutes.

Zu and Williams (especially Williams) will get plenty of reps with the South Bay Lakers very soon.

He does, he's a legit big body and can finish well off the roll action. He still has a lot of quality traits, just gotta use him rightly so he's in a position to succeed,

Let's be honest.
At this stage of his career, Tyson isn't that good.
I'd assume Zubac is better than Tyson.

As centers

Moe > Zubac > Tyson > Williams > Kuzma

imo.

Zubac finally got minutes, ran in the pick and roll and had plays called for him.

This shouldn't be surprising given what he's shown to be good at, especially when he's utilized off ball and in the pick and roll.

But it seems to always get forgotten.

I told ya'll. We have a back up big. Just took Luke till now to realize it. Or maybe getting admonished by Magic opened his eyes.

Probably not.

Give him the ball. I never understand why he only sets screens and has to chase the ball if he wants to score. He's shown that in the right situations, he can score consistently, but the Lakers have held on to a hierarchy of who deserves to shoot. Luke admitted Zubac's been impressive in practice lately against the league's best defensive center.

Good on Zu to play well tonight. Here’s to hoping he proves me wrong that he belongs overseas. Once Chandler is on board tho, he probably won’t even get the chance. And that’s not taking Wagner getting back into account either.
