National media folks rave about him due to his offense and attitude on that end totally ignoring his lack of defense. Could go the Clarkson way unless someone in the organization teach him the need to defend and improve his decision making.

The Clarkson scenario is essentially that we saw his rookie year, assumed he'd burst out and become a star, when instead he more or less stays the same, as the league continues to adjust to him and he only gets slightly better or slightly worse.

That may be the case if Kuzma continues to not care about defense.

Think his defensive issues are being overblown. He's taking the blame for assuming that LeBron is gonna help but Bron usually just stays still in his spot. Not saying Kuz doesn't need to improve but don't think it's all on him...I see good effort.

If only Kuz had Svi's defensive footwork ....if only Svi had BI's arms

Kuz does work hard at his d...sure he coasts sometimes. Not as much as Bron though

Kuz works hard. And he wants to get better. You can see that.
Unfortunately, their communication on defense is horrid! Horrid!!!!
As the saying goes: Work smarter not harder.
Unfortunately, the team seems to be doing more of the latter and less of the former.

His offense has been a huge disappointment (mediocre, IMO, overall), but he's still the only player on this team sans Lebron with the ability to go off for an efficient 37. That kind of dormant power alone does count for something, even with the defensive warts.

lol at the Clarkson comparisons, but a 6-10 Clarkson is rare and elite in today's game.

I'm going to one up that comparison for long time laker fans. See if you can name this ex-laker.

Kuzma is exactly like our leading scorer 20ish points in the mid 90s for a reason or two before we get shaq and kobe.

Kuz's 3 point shooting has been disappointing to start this season but his TS% is actually higher than last season and he is putting up 19 PPG which has me optimistic that if he can start hitting the 3 ball at similar % as last yr he will easily be a 22 PPG scorer for us.

Defensively he's Ryan Anderson level. Just really bad.

And Kuz would work if we had Vlade and Campbell protecting the rim.

Anderson has physical limitations, he's slow. Kuzma has no excuse.

Saw this on reddit:

According to advanced stats, Kuzma is having a worse defensive season than the 34 year old Carmelo Anthony

I still can't understand why he's starting

Defensive Box Plus-Minus: Kuzma is worst amongst all starting forwards. Carmelo is 3rd

Defensive Win Shares : Kuzma and Carmelo are tied for second worst

Defensive Rating : Kuzma is tied for second worst. Carmelo is third worst.

Seriously man.

The biggest contributor to our biggest problem. It's not even close, this guy is the worst at almost every single defensive statistic on the Lakers. The only reason I say almost is because luckily for him, Micheal Beasley has logged in some minutes this season

Kuzma isn't that bad a defender when he's next to Ingram in the frontline.

He is that bad a defender when LBJ isn't defending.
