So adkindo, Mike: what do you guys think of Konate on the Lakers?
Maybe a Ben Wallace who can shoot a little.
I'm liking him more and more as a need pick seeing what the Lakers want to do. I guess it depends where the Lakers pick falls and whether or not they can get a 2nd round pick somewhere. _________________ Under New Management

I'll change my mind when I see more offensive versatility and enough to compensate for height differences. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I went back and watched some videos of Ben Wallace and he's taller than I thought he was. I thought he was 6' 8" but then I watched him fighting with Ron Artest and he made Artest look small. He's listed at 6' 8" to 6' 9" with a purported 7' 2" wingspan. I think Konate is 6' 6 3/4 with a 7 foot wingspan. I thought he was a little taller.
Still his blocking instincts and ability are elite and he shot 79% from the FT line. I will watch him with great interest this season.

One of the few guys who can match bicep for bicep with Zion.
I guess the key is how is his defense? Ability to switch?
Can he be a Montrezl Harrell type player?
Maybe similar size and strength to Ben Wallace but I feel Wallace was more explosive/fast twitch.
Waiting for Mike.
I'm waiting on further development to see if he can contest shots without swatting and keep a foul rate down. I expected more out of Harrell at this point tbh.
Frankly, I'm not worried about *just* Zion. The NBA is already full of guys to worry about. If the BPA isn't a 5, so be it. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

in some ways, similar to Mike....this year will be an important year in determining what type of impact he may have in the NBA. So much last year was still based on "upside", but this will be his junior season so we should see more of his game already materialized. Without Carter and Miles on the perimeter, he will truly be the anchor of the entire defense this season, and that will be important to evaluate. The rumor is that "Press Virginia" is getting ramped up this season....more similar to a couple years ago when it was full court, all out, 100% of the time....and guys were shuffling in and out of the game every 3-5 minutes. If so, that will leave Konate as the lone rim protector in those situations where the press is broke and a guy gets free.....should give him many opportunities for his highlight 1 on 1 two handed rejections! Also, I continue to hear that he has stretched his jumper out to the 3 point line.....I even heard Huggins say that, so it could have some truth.....although I would be surprised if we saw him get up more than 1 or 1.5 a game.
WVU had their "super secret" scrimmage against Purdue this past weekend, and as expected the box score made its way to Twitter. WVU won the game, but the bad news is Konate did not play for cautionary reasons. Actually him and our starting PG, Beetle Bolden was held out of the game. Although Konate did not play, I got feedback from some WVU people and even the Purdue play-by-play guy concurred that Esa Ahmed (WVU) and Carson Edwards (Purdue) both looked very good and led their teams in scoring. If I recall, Ahmed had 22 and Edwards had 24 points. If we are talking pure raw NBA talent and abilities....Ahmed is probably the better prospect on WVU, but for 3 seasons he has not came close to showing it on a consistent basis. Really hoping he recognizes this season is now or never, and becomes the main guy on this team. If he does, I could see him finding his way into the 2nd Round of the draft.....the ability is there.

ESPN was airing that Duke thing they have been playing on Plus over the summer....and I was watching a clip of Duke in the layup line before an exhibition game....and I swear I thought Zion was going to hit his face on the rim....guy gets very high when he leaps.

Zion might be the most ridiculous vertical athlete the game has ever seen. The dude is built like a buffer Charles Barkley but jumps as high (if not higher) as Gerald Green. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but it really isn't.
The question is whether or not he can play basketball, and watching him so far, it certainly seems like he can. He'll be effective based solely on his athleticism, but if his passing and ball-handling translate, he has a chance to be really good.

Knicks and Bulls get a top 3 pick. Cos Zion and Barrett on those teams would be fun.
Who are we liking for Lakers? Thoughts on Kris Wilkes?
the talent and ability appear to be there to be a 1st Round pick this year....but there are a ton of guys that a similar statement could be made about, and like Wilkes have yet to demonstrate they are ready for the next level. It will all come down to this season for him and others.
I will say I question that #21 ranking UCLA got preseason.....feels like with Wilkes, Hands, and Ali returning...adding a Top 10 freshman class with Moses Brown, Jules Bernard, David Singleton and Tyger....and even Cody Riley rejoining the team.....they should have been ranked higher. That is a lot of talent that if things break right could be rolling in March.
Moses could give them an element they have not had in a while....or at least I can recall. For those that have not seen him play....7'1" with solid athleticism and skill...
