It was so apparent at the beginning of the season that the team was real thin at center. Zubac was not going to anchor the defense, McGee was always on a minutes limitation, Wagner...no way.
I wanted so badly to believe that Williams could fill that role, but I knew there were reasons that he went undrafted.
Now, in steps Chandler. He is definitely a welcome addition. Saying that he balances the roster is very apt EP.
Thank you. |

Emplay - Tyson Chandler proved you right tonight! Impressive, considering he's had zero time to get familiar with his teammates. |

What LeBron needs in Los Angeles is to lead by example and commit to play in defence with true effort. Sure Chandler will help him there, but it is reaching to presume that Chandler will take leadership away from him. It would be telling, though, if Chandler did that... _________________ .

It was probably Suns fans, they have been trying to make us think Chandler is useless |

T. Chandler is A piece..
I doubt he is THE piece
that is gonna put them into championship contention, unless he can defend the middle and the three-point line...(LOL) _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

Hope you are correct. I sure have liked the last couple of games we played with him. _________________ Never argue with stupid people! They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience!! - Twain |

The Chandler acquisition proves that you still need rebounding and defensive deterrence depth, even in a system focusing on wide-open offense and defensive versatility on the perimeter.
McGee was a buried treasure kind of find, giving us a defensive backstop, aggressiveness on the glass, and a vertical game near the rim for 1st-chance lobs or 2nd-chance putbacks.
Obviously, the older, more veteran Chandler doesn't have the same spring or wingspan (7'3" vs 7'6") of McGee, but he still gives us some of the vertical game and rebounding support that we need to keep our offense despite missed shots, and to limit the offensive rebounds of the other team. \
Chandler may not have the athletic offense game of McGee or the fundamental, set-shot offense of Brook Lopez from last year, but he is certainly a more aggressive rebounder than Lopez was, for sure.
In any event, Chandler gives us the veteran backstop we need when McGee sits. He may not be the prolific swatter that McGee is, but as last night proved, he isn't a mere turnstile, either.
Chandler is the most effective backup big we've picked up since Mychal T. (I don't count Pau as he was a replacement starter from the get-go with Bynum on the IR list that year.) Having Chandler makes small-ball an OPTION, not a NECESSITY in every game (barring foul trouble, injuries, etc.) Despite playing only half of each of the last 2 seasons, Chandler still pitched in with 9-11 rebounds and about half a block in 25-28 minutes per game.
If Chandler can give even 6-7 rebounds a game in 20 or so minutes while McGee sits, along with his solid screens, inside position fighting, and overall defensive presence (whether with blocks or by simply taking up space in the paint), we're gonna be solid upfront going into the stretch-run... and playoffs. |
