Chandler was amazing tonight at walling off dibble penetration and not allowing KAT or Taj to back him down...

But what does it say about our coaching when he's the only big doing both of those fundamental things and in his 1st game he's playing a lot of minutes while closing too as a backup?

Just finished watching the game, and if he keeps going, I'll have to change my opinion about him being done as an impactful player. I think he might had a little extra energy tonight being his first game as a Laker, so I don't expect him to be THAT energic every night, but if he can give 15 to 20 minutes like that every game, it will be huge. I just hope it wasn't just one game.
Anyway he was huge. I also hope the refs will keep ignoring his obvious fouling on screens and offensive rebounds !

Was it just me, or was Luke subbing McGee and Tyson over and over hilarious?

Tyson was a difference maker. Without him this was probably a loss with the game Derrick Rose had.

I agree his defense and rebounding was very impressive I didn't realize he still had the quickness to switch out on guards.

It was good that the referees let him played as if he was prime Kevin Garnett, of all his screens, I think there was probably very few where he was playing "by the rules", but as long as they don't whistle, he should keep doing it. I think he was called for only one illegal screen right ?

Even that embarrassing LMA/Zubac sequence never happens if Tyson is here. Granted, LMA is an all star and probably bests Tyson, but not in such an embarrassing fashion.

Tyson wouldn’t even need to shut down LMA. Just limit him even a little bit and we win that game instead of barely losing.

Right. You can't post him up. You can def cause trouble for him in open space.

As an aside, I'm still puzzled about why Luke wanted Kuz on KAT most of the game. I know KAT can play outside, but Kuz is giving up 3-4 inches and 30+ pounds on the block and rebounds.

It's a testament to how ineffective Zu is.

If we had Tyson from game 1, I think we would easily be 8-3.

He would have been great against the Spurs. Pop abused our interior defense.

I think the refs are going to have to apologize about him a few times in the 2 minute report but all will be forgotten by tomorrow.

Is it the coaching or the players?

Coaches can yell until they are blue in the face to "do" the right things but if the player is not doing it or simply not capable of doing it there is little that can be done.

Just because you tell a player to box out and rebound or do endless drills does not mean that will be his strength on the court. Especially at game speed against true interior rebounders and defenders that have careers based on that skillset.

Chandler fills a much needed role on the front line. A player that has the instincts and skillset to be physical and be an impact player.

Lakers finesse front line just got a little tougher. Hope it inspires some others to play with that same energy and toughness. Welcome Mr. Chandler.

I agree.

At this point I am more concerned with the next 10 games instead of the last 10.

So far 1-0 on a stretch that hopefully is closer to 7-3 record.

I think we go 7-3 or 8-2 the next 10. Excited.

That would put us at 12-9 or 13-8.

Tyson said post game, he kept telling Luke when he was getting fatigued and was being honest about it. Said his legs werent fully under him cause he hasnt played for 5-6 days.

I doubt it would be that big of a swing. You could convince me that we'd be above .500 though.

Losses:

Portland: their bigs destroyed our guys on the glass. Collins looked like Hakeem out there.

Rox: weird game, but probably no effect.

Spurs (2 games): we win. LMA isn't fouling out our frontline and bullying them.

TWolves: KAT murdered us inside. As we saw with Tyson, KAT is neutred. We win that IMO.

Toronto: nothing could have been done.

So I would say 4 games we would have won with a better center at backup. So that's 9-2, maybe 8-3.
