Game Preview: Lakers hope to contain Atlanta rookie Young

Quote:
There was no need for the Los Angeles Lakers to take a deep look at the blue-chip prospects heading into the most recent NBA Draft. After having the second overall pick three years in a row, the Lakers had the 25th selected of the first round this year.

But the Lakers have been getting an up-close view of the top rookies so far this season, and Sunday evening they'll face another top rookie when they host the Atlanta Hawks and point guard Trae Young at Staples Center.

Gonna get Harted
Definitely

He will be Harted, KCP'd, Zo'd, Rondo'd plus swatted, a time or two, by JaVale.

I just hope we don't get Barea'd, Lowry'd or Steph'd.

For some reason we seem to struggle more with the small guards.

There's a very high probability that this will occur.

There were a lot of folks who were high on Trae in last year's draft thread. He was ranked as the #1 pure shooter in his class.

He is a very good shooter but he's young (no pun intended) and has a long way to go physically as-well-as mentally.
We should be able to assign a number of different defenders to him throughout the game, including BI, in order to wear him down.

Young shoots 26% from 3, averages 4 tos per game and has a DBPM of -4.3. I know the media likes to push this narrative that some players are good and others suck, but young...despite being interesting....is not very good.

Young is like the point guard version of Ingram... very inefficient now and immature physically, but has a lot of raw talent.

I do think we can control him, overwhelm him defensively but it won't always be like that.

As long as we keep someone on him all the time we should be fine for now.

He's capable of those deep threes beyond the line so the defenders should be mindful of that. But he is weak so if we wear him down with a variety of defenders, we should be good. Hopefully we don't sleep on Lin either as he's coming off a decent game.

This game really would be inexcusable to lose... we've progressed to the point where we shouldn't get beaten by teams like Atlanta even in a back to back.

The good thing is we beat Sacramento shooting horribly so the law of averages should mean we bounce back tonight even if they are a little tired.

For the life of me I cannot understand this idea that he's a good or even average shooter. He's shooting worse than Carmelo.

even though we are back to back this should be a blow out. The starters best be sitting most if not all of the 4th quarter.

Okay, okay, he was a good college shooter; I'm not impressed either.

Lol but that's what I mean. He wasn't even good in college so it's not surprising that he's struggling even more as a pro.

Trap game. We play like crap on Sundays. Hoping we don't get complacent. Also hoping Lonzo and BI bounce back strong. They need confidence boosters.
