With NBC News now projecting that Dem Jared Golden has ousted incumbent GOP Rep. Bruce Poliquin in Maine-2, this means the partisan tally for New England House seats will be:
Dems: 21
Repubs: 0
Of the 12 US Senate seats in New England, 1 will be GOP-held:
Susan Collins.

After her Kavanaugh vote, I'd say Collins is gone in 2020. womp womp | good. get em all outta here. |

That's great to hear, but it's weird that both the NYT and Politico have declared Golden the winner, while the other guy still has more votes with 95% of votes counted. Unless there's more up to date numbers somewhere else? _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

The best thing the Dump administration has done for me, it opened my eyes to how corrupt our elected officials are.
I thought there were officials that were in it for the Benjamin's. I didn't know how many there are.

I knew there was corruption, I didn't know it was as widespread as it is.
My head isn't in the sand. I didn't pay as close attention to politics as I should have. I don't think I'm rowing that boat alone. I'm one who Dumps administration pricked.
I want to know how bad it is. I've gotten off my ass and done something. I used social media, email and text messages to reach those I know. Discussed our political dilemma more now than I ever did in the past. I'm now a wanna know what's going on voter. Am I doing as much as I can, NO. Am I doing something, YES. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Rachel just explained they have ranked voting. If neither candidate gets 50%, they go back a recalculate based on second choice picks on non-Democratic/non-Republican ballots (Independent, Green Party, etc.) The current numbers reflect only the first pass but they've done the recalculations and the Democratic candidate wins. |

Trump is an idiot savant sometimes.
When he blamed California for the wildfires. The convo switched to why Trump is an idiot.
When the conversation should be, climate change is (bleep) ing real. And the repurcussions of that will only get worse and more frequent as time goes on.
Californians should be pissed at Trump and the GOP for the wildfires. Sure a change in climate policy won't fix things immediately.
But right now our policy is like a lung cancer patient smoking. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I looked at the House map. There were also a bunch of close losses throughout the country. With a bit of luck and a slightly higher turnout, this could have been 60 gained seats in the House, and fewer losses in the Senate. Oh well, I'm not complaining. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

Wonder how much the SALT repeal played into vs. the suburban women phenomenon (+ increased turnout). I imagine not a lot, but the GOP tax bill did increase taxes on a lot of rich OC voters |

This article has some really great stats about the red/blue economic divide, why things are broken and why it's so hard to fix:
CNBC: These charts show how Democrats represent the growing modern economy – and how Republicans are left behind
Quote: | Among other results, this year’s midterm elections affirmed this much: in Washington, the two parties now speak for dramatically different segments of the American economy.
Republicans represent the smaller, fading segment, with less-educated, more-homogenous work forces reliant on traditional manufacturing, agriculture and resource extraction. Democrats represent the larger, growing one, fueled by finance, professional services and digital innovation in diverse urban areas. |
Quote: | With a few races still undecided, data from the Brookings Institution show that districts won by Democrats account for 61 percent of America’s gross domestic product, districts won by Republicans 38 percent. |
Quote: | Analysis by the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program documents the gap between them. Residents of districts won by Democrats generate 22% more output per worker, and have a 15% higher median household income.
|
Quote: | That makes economic divergence as central to 21st century polarization as race, gender and religion. And it highlights challenges for both parties as a Democratic House and Republican Senate share power in Congress. |
Quote: | “The advancing parts of the economy have to ask permission from the rear-view mirror parts of the economy to get the inputs they need,” Muro says. “That’s a problem our competitors don’t have.” |
One of our right-leaning friends posted a few pages back asserting the exact opposite of the above. I hope he reads this with an open mind and reconsiders.
Red State Republicans won't spend the money to retrain and educate their own constituents, and don't believe government should invest in infrastructure or other programs that might actually stimulate their own economies. Democrats are for these programs whether they are in red or blue states. If people in red states are hurting and want things to change, they'd be better off voting for Democrats. But it seems tribe, race, fear Trump reason. |
