Very impressed that he came out and stated that everyone is still learning to play together. I believe many here are not patient, especially after reading the Clippers are more successful than the Lakers post. I am glad he actually said that we do not want to run everything through LB. In one breath LJ is saying how good Zo is and wants him to be more aggressive. During the game he stifles the kid and cuts his balls off. Also like that he is worried about LJ's workload. We have to keep his minutes in check or we could have another KB (overworked which had a role in his injuries). Keep the guy fresh and unleash him come playoff time.

Last year: We want to run the fastest tempo in the league

This year: We wanna slow down and preserve LeBron's legs

PICK an identity please.

And we wonder why there's no consistency in our team structure.

Magic said they want to conserve Lebron's legs by making him play fewer minutes and less point guard.

Walton said they're slowing down due to their focus on defense (for example actually securing the rebound before belting up the court) and having Rondo out.

At no point did they say they were slowing down to save Lebron's legs.

How is this different from any of the other meaningless rhetoric that occasionally spews out of his mouth? "We'll be better once we get better." "We're going to avoid overworking Lebron by not overworking him."

^Harsh

The Magic Man has set January 1 as the date of mandatory improvement.

My guess is he is already working on another blockbuster too, LeBron James was pretty good for his first big move.

710 was discussing this on the radio this AM.

I think it was the host Travis Rodgers who said this feels like step 2 in the getting rid of Luke process, doesn’t know how many steps are involved. LZ added that Luke is “seasoned, not cooked but ready.”

I think there is some truth to it:

Step 1: Admonishment
Step 2: Cleveland all over again
Step 3: ...

If you read the article Magic said “we want to get up and down”. They want to limit his minutes and ball handling usage. Nothing about slowing down.

"Lebron ball" has been more due to Rondo's injury than anything. I don't know why Luke isn't running Ingram more at point like last season though. His ball dominance would be a better fit there. Perhaps he doesn't want to bench Lonzo, which he does for entire 4th quarters for no reason anyway.

PG: Ingram
SG: KCP/Hart
SF: Lebron
PF: Kuz
C: McGee

^ Because Ingram has been awful at the point. He doesn’t have great handles and doesn’t seem to be very good at creating shots for others.

We have about a 12 game sample size from last season where he and the team performed well with him at the point.

His truth is a little optimistic.

Who's going to be held accountable for the fact that most of our players can't do what you would think is the easiest thing to do in basketball, which is hit free throws? Some of these guys for multiple seasons now...

I noticed that too..
No offense to Kuz or BI but neither one is consistent at this point (which is to be expected from young kids in this league)..
Magic is prone to hyperbole at times though.

What does he expect, we are playing at a 50 win pace. Looks like they are on track to me.

They're the only semi scorers of the young core he has left, he got rid of the other two that were actual scorers, which is why his statement looks silly.

If we don't have an identity by midseason I'd be worried. The rest is just noise.

And next week we'll get a story about Magic yelling and screaming behind closed doors about why the team isn't playing together yet. God, I wish Magic would shut his mouth for the duration of the season.

D'Angelo Russell is averaging 17.6 points on only 41% shooting, and he's hitting only 44% of his 2-pointers. How is he a proven scorer?

And also brought in another guy who is pretty good at putting the ball through the hoop.

Popovich speaking the truth though.

https://sports.yahoo.com/spurs-president-coach-gregg-popovich-172143356.html

I could not agree more. The NBA and its analytics has destroyed the game imo. There is no heart and soul anymore, it's all calculations.

It's like music these days. Just because it is more efficient and faster to make music purely digitally does not make it better. The game is probably more efficient these days, but for sure it is more boring to watch then ever imo.

The hate towards Magic by some on this board is MIND BOGGLING. The man has put us on the map for the 2nd time in his career (once as a player, and now as an executive). He wants to make sure of a few things. Keep LJ's minutes down. He saw what happens (a la KB) when an older player is overused which opens them up to injuries. Magic also does not want LJ to work as hard for scores (we know he doesn't work hard on D). Both the Lakers and LJ said they did not want to run the offense through him as much as teams have in the past. I 100% agree with this. There are a ton of challenges for both the players and Luke as they have to alter their game or coaching because of LJ. The last things we need is a ball dominant LJ who will take the flow out of the game and stifle our kids. We have all played ball with a ball dominant player. It blows and takes everyone out of the game.
